  • Re: Hugo's taunt

A couple of things about taunting with Hugo.
It has 2 types of taunt, the unheld gives an attack increase of about 18.8% for the next hit/combo. Also increases defense by about 6,3% that lasts the whole round. The defense increase can be done 4 times in a round, so he gains 25% more defense.
The held taunt (holding HP and HK) gives an attack increase of about 25% for the next hit/combo/throw
If you press Start during any of the taunts, Poison will appear and you will gain NO BONUS for the taunt you just done.
    .

sorry to revive an old thread but I wanted to correct the wrong info.

"The held taunt (holding HP and HK) gives an attack increase of about 25% for the next hit/combo/throw"

The held taunt does not increase damage anymore than a non-held taunt. a held taunt will however increase the damage for regular throws and command throws. if you do not hold it only non-throw moves receive the damage boost.

"Poison will appear and you will gain NO BONUS for the taunt you just done."

this is also incorrect, even if you call poison the boosts you would normally receive are given.

also according to a Japanese blog, the boosts from the taunt register about when you hear the "ya" when Hugo makes the "iiiiyah" noise during the taunt.

while its rare, I have occasionally seen ysb and others taunt post ultra throw mid screen.

don't know what the video is from but Kuroda is telling a story about Ogawa (guilty gear player). Basically he spits while talking and likes to talk real close to the other person. Kuroda said he's walked out of a store by backing up over and over to make space while talking lol.

Then he said something about poongko but I don't remember and don't want to watch it now. Something about him spilling ice cream on Kuroda once cause he's also a close-talker.

yakkun looked rusty in the videos.

I think it depends on how you hit them, and what you want to achieve. you can still get a good ender (damage wise) even after daipan loop but of course the meter you get back won't be as good as if you reset.

if you hit them crouching I think that's a good time to go for full daipan loop since it does more damage and it's generally easier to do. if you hit them standing it's almost always more practical to reset them because it's hard to keep doing the loop, and it's not doing as much damage as if they were crouching.

Screen positioning is a lot a factor because I can see how if you hit them at a range where dakai > Zesshou won't juggle them then daipan loop is good (even though the safest route is Tetsuzan over and over)

When making a comeback, I think it has to do with reducing the number of yomiai (reads) you'll have to make to win. if daipan loop is going to win or right after that you only have to read correctly once I can see how you would want to go for the full loop. or if they won't die even if you land daipan loop or have more than one mix up following it, then resetting it to get a lot of meter back, you can do the damage with partial loop -> get half meter or more back > run away or attack with pokes to build meter -> activate.

Although I'm not positive what the damage difference is for going for the "double up", the type of reset where you don't continue juggling them (make them land and break their guard or zenpo after). We'll have to look into this more.
