    Controller Adapter/Converter Thread

Please post your converter related questions here. Thank you.

As shoo has requested, here is the thread that will list the best adapters/converters for the most commonly asked about and used systems. At this point in time this is by no means the definitive thread about this topic, but hopefully with the help and combined knowledge of the SRK community we can turn this into one.

If I have missed anything or made any mistakes feel free to post or PM and I will update this as soon as I can. So enough talk let's get the ball rolling...

    ***Test Your Adapter!***

colac has come up with a program that will show you how many ms it takes for the computer to respond to your controller on the PC. Multiple SRKers have tried it already, so don't worry about a virus or spyware. Here is the direct link to download it:

    http://cpsc.ucalgary.ca/~cheguo/File...tLagTestor.zip

    Note from colac:

To accurately test your adapter/converter, you need to:

    1) Using a key on your keyboard to run through the program once and record down the input lag time from your keyboard.

    2) Plug your gamepad and stick through the adapter that you want to test into your PC. Then, use programs like (xpadder) to map a button on your gamepad or stick to the SAME key that you tested in step one. Run the program and record down the input lag again.

    3) Subtract the two results you got from previous steps. If the difference is less than 2 ms (i.e., stick input lag - keyboard input lag <= 2ms), then your adapter can be considered as lag free.

    ***Random Notes***

As of right now there is nothing that will let you use PS3 controllers of any sort on a PS1 or 2. This also pertains to anything with a USB connection.

Not all USB items are compatible even if there is a USB plug. PS3 and 360 controllers will work on a PC, but PS3 or any other controller WILL NOT work on a 360.

Keep in mind that performance of some adapters also depends on the PCB of your stick. For example, some adapters will work perfectly if you are using an official Sony PCB, but if you are using a HRAP or SFAC for instance, you may experience lag or other problems.

If there is an adapter you are interested in that is not in this list, please post here instead of making a new thread! Don't make shoo mad! If there is enough interest in it PM me and I will add it to this post.

probably want to add to the XFPS converter. Let people know that you need a WIRED MS x360 controller plugged into it for it to work. Wireless controllers with the quick-charge kit will NOT work.
GGXXAC - Potemkim, Slayer, Testament, A.B.A
3S - Chun Li, Makoto, Oro, Yang
    UMK3 - Kabal, H.Smoke

Well, Guitar Hero is totally awesome, so I do care a little. Of course the Xbox 360 version is much nicer, so many of us will pass on playing the PS2 game... Till that 80's edition comes out, then we'll have to see.

Ooh, I got an anonymous negative rep for the post above. That makes sense and isn't cowardly. Any nicer paying members care to hook me up with some green rep?

Sorry but posting something like that will likely result in more negative rep.

Posting that I like Guitar Hero or that the Xbox 360 version is better than the PS2 version? Which of those 2 viewpoints is unusual or bad in any way?

The fact of the matter is on SRK your not allowed to like anything non fighting game releated. But i personally think Guitar Hero is shit and only play fighting games.

As for the converter i have Magic Box PS2/Xbox and it works great. No problems.

XFPS sometimes screws up by making you move around in crazy directions but if you play SF that d pad is junk so i'd somewhat recommend it despite it's minor flaws.

PS2/PS3 converter is perfect better than spending $50 on a ps3 controller and for fighting games your stick will work lag free.

    Radioshack ps2 to pc converter.
pros: works without lag (dualshock 2 pcb) on pc emulators.

cons: I cant use my tekken hori so i guess any hori pcb will have the same effects

I disagree with the Trio Linker Plus. It has a huge CON. I had one and it had terrible input lag. I used a HRAP1, HRAP2, and a DC Agetec joystick with Trio Linker Plus in a number of emulators and the lag makes it unplayable. To test if it was an emulation issue, I also tested it under the Japanese PC version of Guilty Gear XX #Reload, and the lag was still present.

Also, I disagree with what you say about the Total Control Plus. It is JUST AS GOOD as the dream connection 2.

  13. #13
I'd also like to make a recommendation for the PC Joybox 3-in-1

I bought this to replace my Trio Linker Plus, and it works great with zero input lag. It's great because it supports Dreamcast, Saturn and PS2 controllers. i.e. All the major platforms that have great arcade sticks.

The bonus with this adapter is that it REQUIRES NO WINDOWS DRIVERS under XP or Vista, as it is an HID-compliant device; whereas the Trio Linker Plus is NOT.

    p.s. rep pls :)

    Oh, and add this:

    Playstation to...

    Saturn : Tototek - http://www.tototek.com/pio/main1/SUB...cconverter.htm

    Pros : Works perfectly.
Cons : Odd button mapping. Will require buttons to be remapped in game options.
    Where : http://www.tototek.com
    Price : $15.00

  15. #15
By Cheesey's suggestions I have replaced the TrioLinker with the PC JoyBox. I have also added the Tototek adapter and given credit to the people who have made suggestions thus far.

Is that the Tekken 10th Anniv. stick? I just got a couple of those. Can anyone confirm/falsify? Thanks.

By the way, is there a converter to use a ps2 stick/controller for multiple systems? In particular I'm looking to use my two tekken sticks for pc, dc, and wii/gc—besides ps2.

I do not have one but I am pretty sure it will not work. Reason being the XFPS is made for Playstation controllers, or to be more specific, Playstation controller PCBs. The X-Arcade uses a universal PCB, so while it can be used on a Playstation, technically it is not a Playstation controller.

For example, I have a Pelican Universal Arcade stick. It has plugs for the Playstation, XBox, and Gamegube, but will not work with an adapter for Playstation to USB, even though all my Playstation only controllers, ie. HRAP2, MAS, SFAC pads, etc. do work with the adapter.

pelican had issues since it manufactuered 2 pcbs during it's life. the zero plus board and the Pelican board.

dang no one has it to test?

    3-in-1 PC Joybox -> PS3

I found this post while looking for infos in google.
Does anybody knows if it really works (I don't onwn the PS3 nor the adapter) ? If it does, it would be a great news, allowing to play the incomming SFII HD with third part pads (Sat, DC, PS 1/2):

    http://boardsus.playstation.com/rss/...age.id=1455022

    The guy says:
I read in one of the other posts that those Radio Shack PS2 control pad converters for PC work on the PS3...so I decided to plug my 3-in-1 PC Joybox (a usb hub that has ports for a PS2/Saturn/Dreamcast controls) and plugged my Sega Saturn control in. The damn thing worked! I was playing MK2 with a Saturn pad, which is by far more comfortable. Only problem is the button mappings and for once, I wish MK2 had configurable buttons.
