University of Waterloo Thread

Waterloo isn't exactly a hotspot for games and people who go there go there for school, not to play games. But that doesn't man you can't drop by the Cove for some games during breaks in class.

If you are attending Waterloo come fall 03 term, post likely times you'll be at the cove and teach me how to play games properly.

good luck in finding people who are in waterloo and on srk too. i know that most of my friends who play have graduated or are going to graduate this term. there just aren't a whole lot of good players left anymore.

In september, the huge influx of fresh-out-of-high-school kids should bring in some new blood.

pocari sweat, I think there are going to be far fewer graduates than frosh come september.

MikeC, were you in school Jan-Apr this year? Have we played? I saw that you finished 13th in MvC2 at T4. I didn't know there was anyone at UW that good :eek:

One of the first things I did after moving in when I was frosh, was head straight for Cove to check it out. I think this is a display of the high-school mentality that exists very early on before the work starts to pile up and the UW stress sets in.

To promote interest ... I think what might be a good idea, is to get ourselves and our friends to be there early on and before the onset of University thinking in the new kids. Get them competing and interested before they get lost in books. That way, they'll try and make time to come back even as school gets harder. Plus, tell them about SRK and this thread, so that they'll know when people will be there and not get turned off by no competition.

To do my part :D , I'll be at Cove a LOT starting September 1st.

I was at school Jan-Apr and am still here in the summer and will be here in the fall. I was learning from guys like Clayton, Fuzz and Ed but I didn't see any of them at T4 except for Ed who said he didn't enter because he doesn't want to get raped.

And no I am not good at all at games, in fact I suck really really badly. The only reason why I didn't finish last (13th is second to last) is because I drew Marvin in losers, who doesn't play MvC2 to my knowledge. Even then I had to get like massive coaching from the Sauga crew to do that....

Hope to see you up here in fall. It is pretty sad right now. Currently there is me, this one indian guy who plays Magneto but can't triangle jump and this 3rd Strike guy who just started playing MvC2. Oh there is Vince who plays team scrub but all it amounts to is random capcom calls and jumping rocket punches. :(

Ed had the best Magneto at cove if I remember right... but that was when I was still in newbie status.

haha.. the indian guy.. is he tall and skinny and always wearing ball gear? He's the reason why I started playing again.. it was my Guile/Ken/Akuma vs his Iceman/Cable/Juggernaut (repetitive ice & viper beams with artic attacks and HVBs DHC into headcrush).. man it stings the ego to lose to that.

I was pretty low tier last term, but I'm on work term 2 minutes from downtown Funland arcade... so lot's of opportunity to practice. And the long trip to and from work make for lots of time to read everything there is to read on SRK.

I've gotta come up to loo to pick up my keys to my place for next term... I know you're in the middle of exams, but if you want / afford the time, maybe we can play for a bit?

Fuzz says the competition this past term sucks. i can't wait till next term when all the double cohort froshies come.

Me fuzz and ed played against JS master at fuzz's house in TO and beat him and his boys MANY times. JS is good, but we had no idea WE were that good. :D We're probably gonna enter t5 as team loo! LOL... we'll bust out some calculus and differentiate random shit between matches or something.

oh yah, watch out for fuzz's IM.. it's insane now. he pulls out infinites out of nowhere.

oh yah, at the risk of sounding like a total geek and *** to the outside world, me and fuzz are gonna start a marvel club. ahhaha.. serious!

we're gonna try and scam some money from the school and buy some japsticks for DC or something and have sessions at SLC or maybe even fuzz's house, if everyone can cram in there. heh.. either way, we'll figure something out.

I'll post details up... don't get your hopes up tho. chances are me and fuzz will be too busy playing to even bother.

I've been on SRK since M2 rolled around last Christmas. Fuzz claims to be at the Cove but I never see him. I actually just ran into him today and played him a few matches. I am definatly closing the gap with you guys. Fuzz's IM got me several times with infinite but i think I split the matches with him 4 games to 7 or something today.

I am not convinced about this JS crap. I've seen JS play at M2 and at T4 and I think he could woop you guys in tournament play anyday of the week. He is annoying as hell and talks shit but he backs it up when it counts. I'll believe it when I see it.

And WTF is with Vince being good? I raped him when I saw him just last week.

Whatever Yuhin, your spiderman rushdown worked on me when I was a noob. I still suck like hell, but by god, its not going to work on me anymore.

There is no way Marvel tournies will happen at the Cove, or any tournies for that matter. Marc has no authority with the cabinents other than doing button repairs. Only Simon or other Orbit techs who only comes like twice a week has authority to put it in event mode.

A total of 19 joined MvC2 singles at T4. 1 withdrew after the first match. I tied for 13th and two other tied for 18th.

As for the indian guy. Ya all he knows is Icebeam and jump back Cable. Nothing else. He thinks he is all that too. I also hate the fact that he has a major odour problem and stinks up the entire cove when he is there. Now he refuses to play me because I substituted capcom for Doom beta assist and can actually counter chip his Iceman to death.

I have exams on the 8th (tommorow from 2-5) and will be at the cove at noon until exam time. I also have exams on the 11th and will be at school all day from 12-5 and my last exam on the 13th. I will be around till the 16th which is orbit UN night, thats when I go back home to pick up the sauga crew.

Best bet is to let me know when you are comming up though. See you then.

fuzz doesn't play at the cove anymore because there's no competition there. me and him will be there everyday after class come september... or during class.. whatever. :D

lol.. first thing JS said when he came to fuzz's house was "I'm the best Marvel player in TO" me and fuzz were drunk and high and 5 seconds into the match JS is like "oh shit. they know how to play." lol. Yeah, he's good (for a TO player anyways...), no denying that, but if you're gonna talk so much smack, don't lose to "n00bs" like me and fuzz when we've got a rum and coke in one hand and a spliff in the other.

This is the best idea ever. The school gives out cash for the dumbest clubs...

Again though, I wanna emphasise how we should snare the young'uns really early on in their university lives. Get them into that downward spiral of marvel over math right from the get go. Let's recruit for the club during frosh week while they have no idea how fucked they are trying play and still pass.

i forget everyone's name there. actually, i never really knew anyone's name. mike was called cyclops boy for all of last term until the last few weeks or so :D. then there's burberry boy (i think he's your cousin ...jason was it?), spiderman dood, brown guy, skinny brown guy, ed, fuzz and henry. + many random white guys who don't know how to play and mash on my beautiful jap cabinets .

i'm the guy that owns you with magnus all the time and you're the guy that plays iori/honda/sagat right?.... <shrug> ah well, i'll see you guys in a few weeks anyways.

Fuck, cyc has been kicked off my teams for a while now (start of spring term). I tried so hard to make him work but damnit, you need skill to use him since his assist doesn't have the raw damage like Capcom.

Maybe I'll try to work on him later. Right now, I am trying to find out how to be a cheap ass with Doom using as little effort as possible.

There are new mashers in town.... Some of the worst kind too. The entire cabinet fucking shakes OTG when this one asshole tries to play it. Indian guy (spiderman juggy now Ice Cable) also fucks up the cabinents occasionally when he can't win.

I've been trying hard to keep the machine repaired and stuff so it should be good to go come September.

Fuzz's colossus is good, but not like overpowering or anything. He relies on you being stupid in thinking you can rush down scolossus or something because he is slow. Then WHAM, he pulls out high priority insane damage moves out of his ass.

His colossus got me the first game but I made him switch to real characters with Cable-Capcom.
