Cicada's Shoeboxes -- PS3/PC w/ Cthulu -- no orders 'til June, current stock avail

#1

I AM STILL SELLING MY CURRENT STOCK, BUT I AM HOLDING OFF ON BUILDING MORE UNTIL I GET SETTLED INTO MY NEW HOME  I WILL RESUME BUILDING AND POSSIBLY TAKING ORDERS AROUND JUNE.

the sticks are built out of 3/4" MDF or Poplar for the box, and 1/2" MDF for the top/control panel. I will be switching to poplar soon, because, quite frankly MDF is a PITA to work with.

They’re built for happ/iL sticks, and Sanwa/Seimitsu buttons, so if you like that combo [I do] then this might be the case for you (happ buttons will probably fit too, if you want an all-american setup). I can convert most of the ready-built boxes below to accept Japanese sticks

At the moment, I won’t be taking orders and will instead sell them as I build them, because this is a weekends-only project, and I don’t want the pressure of orders piling up on me. I’m still experimenting with different designs and techniques, so that’s another reason why i’m selling as they get built – at least you know youll have a one of a kind

Any other questions or comments, just ask

When these cases sell, I might consider opening up one slot at a time for custom orders, complete sticks, or custom cases to your spec (PS3 only w/cthulu board for the time being – i don’t feel comfortable hacking up pads). I am also considering offering LED-on-activation with my sticks for an extra fee.

I am now taking requests on button layouts, and offering complete sticks – HAPP/iL joystick, Sanwa,Seimitsu, or Happ Buttons

STICK OPTIONS
Paint on Blank case (Paint is included if you order a complete stick): +$10.00
Handle, as in my cammy stick, seen (here): +$5.00

As I PMed you, I would love one, but I’d like one with the plexi and on an angle if possible. I have Happ\iL buttons though…

Perhaps the next case you make would be like that?

#3

what are the dimension of the stick? if i have custom art, can you build a stick with that in mind?

#4

Very nice stick enclosure. The only recommendation I could make would be to alter the front portion of the box. There seems like there’s too many angles there and your hands/forearms could be banging or scraping into them. If you went with the the style the places like Arcade-In-A-Box or X-Arcade use, where the top panel overlays the bottom substructure, you’d have a nice flat playing surface.

It would look basically like this:

#5

I saw your thread in TT. The quality of these look amazing. Looking forward to seeing your finished work.

#6

How much for that ketchup??

Looks good man, I just started making a case and know how hard it can be, can’t wait to see the finished boxes man!!

#7

that’s definitely an idea i’m toying with – i will keep the arcade-style angled top, but i would make the top sit over the box and use miter joints to create the box underneath for more strength. as it stands right now the front and back sit under the top, and the sides are attached to the side of the top.

#8

I’ll definitely look into it. the angle is something i want to work on next.

#9

My girlfriend might want that Hot Heinz Pink style box.

#10

:wgrin: that one’s for my GF as well.

#11

Mine prefers Blue, but the ability to rub french fries on my stick while playing is almost too good to pass up.

#12

:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

#13

nice boxes sir, and happ/iL stick + JP buttons is a top tier combination

#14

A PM has been sent to you. I want to build myself a stick and I am liking these cases. The few things I don’t get though is what type of Sanwa buttons (snap ins?) and how would I mount the Joystick? Would I drill holes in your case?

#15

ill sort out all the details this weekend as i am going home to my parents’ house and my parts should have come in by now. I would either be mounting the joystick via carrier bolts or through screws in the bottom so that there are no holes in the top of the case. not too sure yet. if carrier bolts turn out to be the best way, ill drill the holes in the case for the bolts.

as far as the buttons, the CP is too thick for snap ins, so they will be screw-ins. ill post pics of a completed box soon [less board, because im still wiating for the cthulu boards to be sent to me]

I can vouch for Cicada being a super cool guy, and his sticks look great too!

Is that Cranium game any good?

#17

thanks man!

cranium is fun as hell, but you need 4+ people

also, as promised, here’s a completed stick, since my lizardlick parts came in today. This one is just mocked up to see if the buttons fit; the stick is not installed and the joysticks i just placed in the hole :stuck_out_tongue:

I made my girlfriend one with art, so now this pink one is also for sale [case only] – the only exterior blemish is probably the paint on the side panels; its kinda rough in some areas, and the corners didn’t take the paint too well, as oyu cna see in these pics. the other stuff is just sawdust from dremel’ing out the holes more so the buttons fit.
