Community Tierlist - Abel help requested!

Hello Abel mainers,

At Community Tierlist - overview you can see a brand new dynamic tierlist which is a combined effort of all people on the SRK character forums.

The goals of this web application is to get all people who main a certain character to give their opinion on that character matchups, and then to combine all that data in one overall list.
The idea worked pretty well when performed by the Rose forum (http://shoryuken.com/f277/rose-mis-fortunes-rose-match-up-poll-263465/), most users reached a consensus and Rose got a nice analysis that ranked her around 13th to 17th place, on par with the latest opinions on her by American and Japanese top players.

If all character forums take a small effort to go vote on their character we will get:
[] a per character average of matchups
[
] a community-generated tierlist
[] a cross-matchup view on each matchup (as for example Abel vs Ryu will be ranked both in Abel view as in Ryu view)
[
] and when enough data is provided: a statistical view on contested matchups, on agreed upon matchups and more!
Because this list is open, and inputs are sensitive I took a few measure to get better results:
[] You can only vote once per character
[
] You need to provide the forumcode of you character to validate your vote (provided here), so that you can’t simply click around and vote on anything you want

The extreme votes are removed statistically (10% lowest and 10% highest are discounted)
Abel forumcode is: abel2987144
Please copy/paste this in the forumcode box

I will gradually go to each character forum to collect votes. After your vote you can copy/paste your input to this thread for further discussion.

Hopefully we get a good result!

hmm id contribute but im terrible at coming up with matchup numbers lol

#10

imo match was 5.5-4.5 abel in vanilla
abel got half a point going to super cuz Sagat’s upper FADC doesn’t end lives anymore, s.lk nerf, tiger knee nerf, j.mp nerf, damage nerf, health nerf
i would have given abel a full point and made it 6.5-3.5 if soulless still did 560 damage and TT did vanilla damage

#11

weird thing I noticed, when you go mirror matches it gives you numbers of other matchups but the headers dont match up. I think you need to leave an empty space for mirror.

#12

Yes, its confusing because it is not sorted symetrically. The rows are sorted by ranking, but the columns are fixed alphabetically. So it’s actually correct, but not as you expect from a tier list.
I’ll fix that monday.

Thanks for voting already. Do vote on the website though, you can copy-paste to here then, no point on typing it all here again

edit: actually, you were right. I quickly fixed it by dropping zangief, will make it better and include mirrors tomorrow. Thx mate, was hard to spot

Is there any way to fix that?

really?

#17

I wish I had that much confidence & practice vs Bison that I could call that match 6.5-3.5

no way is Vega-Abel 6.5-3.5 tho. Abel gets murdered in the footsie game in that match and even tho Vega has issues on wakeup, he’s not quite that helpless… plus Abel is weak vs throw mixups and Vega’s throw game is sick

#18

How is vega not completely helpless? His only 3 frame move is throw, making his post step-kick game complete ass, his backdash sucks, his backflips are a death sentence, and his scarlet terror would be ass if he could ever have charge for it. Even Dhalsim has more options against Abel’s offense.

I’m also not sure how you see Abel getting murdered in footsies. We might be at a range disadvantage, but that’s to be expected when we can end the fight off one clean hit. One whiff punish or CH with step kick locks Vega in the panic room, and at that point it really doesn’t matter how many times you got hit. Watching the few videos I can find of you playing your brother, i’d say your problems in that fight stem from impatience. Rather than walking, you use a lot of dashing and jumping to try and get in, and that leads to you eating random unnecessary damage. I’ve got 99 seconds to land one step kick, why rush it? As long as i’m not in the corner, Vega has to worry about me, not the other way around.

#19

I think Abel/Bison is free. Bison has to seriously outplay Abel to win, IMO. Kim thinks it’s 6.5/3.5 also.

As for Vega… I just don’t see the threat. People talk about poking game… meh. In a game without guard bar, I just don’t see how you let somebody dominate you from mid-range in SF4. Don’t walk into their shit, take decent risks to establish the flow of the match how you want, and rape. Once Vega is made to block something, what the fuck does he have?

Vega’s throw mix-up is good in this fight. That’s what gets him the 3.5

Nothing else is of consequence, IMO.

#20

his backdash sucks? its better than chun’s… only bad thing about it is the 9th frame, that is grounded but not invincible. aside from that its all good. backflip has its place (its not after step kick tho) and he has scarlet terror charge pretty frequently after eating a step kick since he most likely was crouching to do c.mp anyway. dhalsim only has more options after blocking f+mk if he has his super stocked.

my matches vs joz are old as hell. it doesn’t look anything like that anymore when we play. no reliable followups on F+MK because Vega will phase through s.fp and like I said he’s got just enough after blocking step kick that the match doesn’t end instantly like it does vs, say, Makoto

Vega tunes Abel up at footsie range cuz if he has even a tiny amount of charge every c.lp turns into a 250 damage hard knockdown. unless you get a CH F+MK the only thing you can bank on from that same range is a 80 damage poke into a mixup that isn’t free
