Hello Blanka mainers,

At Community Tierlist - overview you can see a brand new dynamic tierlist which is a combined effort of all people on the SRK character forums.

The goal of this web application is to get all people who main a certain character to give their opinion on that character matchups, and then to combine all that data in one overall list.
The idea worked pretty well when performed by the Rose forum (http://shoryuken.com/f277/rose-mis-fortunes-rose-match-up-poll-263465/), most users reached a consensus and Rose got a nice analysis that ranked her around 13th to 17th place, on par with the latest opinions on her by American and Japanese top players.

If all character forums take a small effort to go vote on their character we will get:

Because this list is open, and inputs are sensitive I took a few measure to get better results:

My Sim, Cammy, Hawk numbers are probably all outliers.

also looks like I’m the only one who thinks that ken does the best vs. blanka among the shotos.

i agree! ken is the hardest shoto!

i would give a 9,5 to the hawk matchup if it would be selectable, cuz its a free win for blanka!
NEVER lost to a hawk! may change in AE cuz of ball nerf…

Looking at the inverse numbers is interesting.

differences- + is characters who think they do better than we think they do - is they think they do worse.

everything thats over/equal to half a point different I saw.

Also Ves i think akuma is clearly the best against blanka. But also wtf that so many have him at 6.0? someone has 6.5!! that matchup is even at best.

Also someone says sakura is even but then says ken is 6.0 wtf!

edit: looking over mine, i must have missclicked on a few of them. i think fei is 4-6 to fei easily.

Based on online matchups mainly, from my own gameplay experience.
Looking at my consoles win/loss ratio stats; things might be different, but the above figures are how I preceive the matchup tier before the match begins. :slight_smile:

For me at least I try to reduce the shoto matchup to footsies, and I feel that Akuma’s footsies do not do particularly well against Blankas. St.hk whiffing on crouch, and Blanka’s ability to deal with most standard shoto normals makes it much easier. His low health matters here too because he sure as hell does not want to play footsies with you because your pokes actually hurt him, and counterhit balls do about 15%.

Getting knocked down is incredibly bad against Akuma, more so than against Ryu/Ken, but I think you have to mess up pretty bad to get vortexed, and backdash/ex rainbow generally can’t be option selected with the same move(or this hasn’t happened to me at least correct me if I’m wrong) which also throws off Akuma a bit.

J.mp and nj.hp are valuable tools vs. akuma both air to air and air to ground. If spaced properly they will beat DPs, or trade in your favor which is very important.

Akuma players are used to teleporting out of knockdown pressure. This does not work against Blanka at all. Off of a meaty/meaty jumpin you almost always punish teleport on reaction and if your meaty jumpin is spaced properly you can also eliminate the possibility of a dp. There is also a spacing you can use where you meaty Akuma if he blocks, and his dp whiffs after the first hit, but I don’t know the exact spacing. Thats free damage though.

Stun. Akumas low stun in combination with his low health means you have a reasonable chance to stun him off of some pretty simple offensive sequences, and actually kill him off of the post stun combo/ultra.

Like all shotos you can turtle fireball pressure if you have a life lead, and akuma’s common airfireball traps into pressure do not regularly work on blanka because of a combination of ex ball/ex upball/cowards crouch/Blankas fast jump/how stupid Blanka’s hitbox is.

Demon is the wildcard here. If the Akuma player is looking to land it in a footsie situation off of a kara, you can attempt to bait the kara move and whiff punish it or do something like hop. If you have the life lead once akuma gets ultra, you can lame him out generally. If he has the lifelead it is an uphill battle, but most of Blanka’s matchups in that situation are. Lastly Demon CAN BE SAFEBALLED, which is the ultimate bait and you can get some big damage. It’s hard to safeball, but it is possible.

I think what it comes down to is. Akuma has legit ways to deal with ball. Also he can achieve knockdowns more often then ken and ryu. c.HK in general for akuma is pretty wicked. Also vortex is a legit threat on wakeup. Both of those options ken and ryu don’t have at all. Then there is demon. I think that ken is the weaker of the three only because he has no punishment at any point for blanka ball at midscreen.

What is really sucky is we have so few good akumas outside of japan so that’s the biggest reason we all think differently on the matchup.

I don’t think any shoto is really good at dealing with ball. Hell with ryu if I have a huge lifelead and he’s almost dead I will just take the super because it does under 30% when you factor in guts because he’s way more dangerous with 4 bars with me at 95% than he is with 0 with me at 67%.

Ken’s kara throw/counterhit mixup stuff is where I get messed up. You can literally walk out of Akuma/Ryu tickthrow setups a lot of the time, but ken’s pressure on a standing opponent is much stronger imo because he can do much more variation on when he throws you and counterhit trap from much farther away. His st./cr.strong+better dp+karas(even kara fireball)+stepkick make him a pain for me. Joons Ken has given me a lot of trouble and he’s on point with those shoryus.

Also yeah thats true about the Akuma point. I think Ken I and Perfect Legend are the two best Akumas I’ve played, and by far. Every other akuma I’ve played has not been close in skill.

A lot of the Akumas I met were standard jumpback airball to flip types. I approach this match with the mentality of a person who did main Akuma in SF4 but dropped because the curve between passable and good is so steep, plus his health is dire… which in combination means to me; get it right first time or more than likely die trying, quickly.
He’s weak, and without the skill to pull stuff off, most I’ve met are flashes in the pan. Couple of balls to the teeth, a poorly timed demon punish and dead. His throw seems to have less reach too in comparison to other shotos, especially kens horribly annoying ones. And yeah… teleport doesn’t seem safe with Blanka at all; couple of hops and a sweep, knockdown. Ken… grrrr…
