I think we need to make a thread dedicated to the art of COUNTER HITTING :rock:

In general, what kind of tactics do you use to start setting up a counter hit? Do you purposely drop a combo to use a certain normal like cr. HP to bait a crouch tech for the counter hit? If you do how do you go about it?

Things like that.

I’ve had cr. lp cr. lp (blocked) and cr. mp counter hit quite often, but I have no idea what normal I can use from a CH cr. mp.

f.mp on block into c.hp is my most used counter hit bait. from c.hp in either ex stones or HP CU.
blocked c.lp, c.lp into f.mp as CH into c.hp xx HP CU does also hit often.

I use mindgames to set up counterhits. I deliberately create a throw rhythm and the next few times I go for grab I CH their attempt to throw me and go on from there. That’s just one of my methods.

For people who like to use OS crouch tech I deliberately mix up my rhythm to CH their cr.lk.

interesting… whats your favorite move to beat crouch techers?

oh and zUkUu thanks for the tip. I was playing against my friends and the spaced out f.mp to cr.hp counter hit like a charm. It didn’t work point blank though, I had to make sure it was blocked on its last active frames. Which I realized made it a 1 frame trap

ice_rei summed it up for me as well.
For crouch techers, create space with cLP cLK strings, and then throw out a max range fHP. OS Crouch techs will whiff <3

that depends on the crouch tech used. you can do it with sweep and or c.mk aswell etc

btw, hammerhook has a good hitbox. the attackbox succeed his hurtbox, making this trade not often and even beat out airborne opponents. wouldn’t it be that slow, it were actually a pretty decent poke itself.

zUkUu… could you repeat your last sentence I can’t quite understand it that well =(
All I understood was that hammer hook has a good hit box.

F.mp, cl.hp and cr.hp works great and since i use ultra 2 it gives me a free ultra.

that was literally the whole meaning ^^

last sentence meant: if hammer hook would be faster, it was an real good poke, even if it wouldnt hit as overhead. - but that’s not the case, so nvm ^^

I’m really trying to work counters into game but I keep getting hit with jabs and shorts before the move comes out. I’ll cross up then jab jab and try a forward mp but I keep getting hit? How can I fix that?

crossup, s.mp, f.mp
or f.mp, c.hp
or s.hp, c.hp
etc

from a c.lp, c.lp you reset and start with f.mp or f.hk not everytime immediatly after or you’ll get reversaled like you mentioned.

c.lp, c.lp, c.mp or c.lk on block is a frametrap aswell that will beat most longer start up moves.

It’s not reversals, I’m getting hit with massed jabs. I was under the impression that counterhits would remedy this? I’m guessing that I can’t set up a ch trap from jabs?

Oh you definitely can ch after crouching jab
You’ve got 2 options to use if they mash jabs, cr.mp and far.lk. Both will ch a crouch tech/mash jab. I recommend using cr. mp instead.

I’m a bit nubish about this still…so I jab and then purposely delay my mp in order to counter mashed jabs?

nah if you delay your cr. mp it’ll allow their cr. lp to come out. Just cr. mp as if you’re comboing. You’re cr. lp gives you +2 on block. Cr. mp starts at 5 frames since there is a 3 frame gap between your block and cr. mp it means any 4 frame move (aka crouch tech/ mashed jabs) gets counter hit. However be cautious if they have a 3 frame DP.
