ign made the vid private. maybe they gave away too much?

anywho…

we dont know anything about the game. except one thing.
Vitale recites a line from Wlliam Blake’s poem, Proverbs of Hell. from his book, The Marriage of Heaven and Hell.

“In seed time learn, in harvest teach, in winter enjoy. Drive your cart and your plow over the bones of the dead. The road of excess leads to the palace of wisdom. Prudence is a rich ugly old maid courted by Incapacity. HE WHO DESIRES BUT ACTS NOT, BREEDS PESTILENCE. The cut worm forgives the plow. Dip him in the river who loves water. A fool sees not the same tree that a wise man sees. He whose face gives no light, shall never become a star. Eternity is in love with the productions of time. The busy bee has no time for sorrow. The hours of folly are measur’d by the clock, but of wisdom: no clock can measure. All wholsom food is caught without a net or a trap. Bring out number weight & measure in a year of dearth. No bird soars too high, if he soars with his own wings. A dead body, revenges not injuries. The most sublime act is to set another before you. If the fool would persist in his folly he would become wise. Folly is the cloke of knavery. Shame is Prides cloke. ~ Prisons are built with stones of Law, Brothels with bricks of Religion. The pride of the peacock is the glory of God. The lust of the goat is the bounty of God. The wrath of the lion is the wisdom of God. The nakedness of woman is the work of God. Excess of sorrow laughs. Excess of joy weeps. The roaring of lions, the howling of wolves, the raging of the stormy sea, and the destructive sword, are portions of eternity too great for the eye of man. The fox condemns the trap, not himself. Joys impregnate. Sorrows bring forth. Let man wear the fell of the lion, woman the fleece of the sheep. The bird a nest, the spider a web, man friendship. The selfish smiling fool, & the sullen frowning fool, shall be both thought wise, that they may be a rod. What is now proved was once, only imagin’d. The rat, the mouse, the fox, the rabbit: watch the roots; the lion, the tyger, the horse, the elephant, watch the fruits. The cistern contains; the fountain overflows. One thought, fills immensity. Always be ready to speak your mind, and a base man will avoid you. Every thing possible to be believ’d is an image of truth. The eagle never lost so much time, as when he submitted to learn of the crow. ~ The fox provides for himself, but God provides for the lion. Think in the morning. Act in the noon. Eat in the evening. Sleep in the night. He who has suffer’d you to impose on him knows you. As the plow follows words, so God rewards prayers. The tygers of wrath are wiser than the horses of instruction. Expect poison from the standing water. You never know what is enough unless you know what is more than enough. Listen to the fools reproach! it is a kingly title! The eyes of fire, the nostrils of air, the mouth of water, the beard of earth. The weak in courage is strong in cunning. The apple tree never asks the beech how he shall grow, nor the lion, the horse, how he shall take his prey. The thankful reciever bears a plentiful harvest. If others had not been foolish, we should be so. The soul of sweet delight, can never be defil’d. When thou seest an Eagle, thou seest a portion of Genius, lift up thy head! As the catterpiller chooses the fairest leaves to lay her eggs on, so the priest lays his curse on the fairest joys. To create a little flower is the labour of ages. Damn, braces: Bless relaxes. The best wine is the oldest, the best water the newest. Prayers plow not! Praises reap not! Joys laugh not! Sorrows weep not! ~ The head Sublime, the heart Pathos, the genitals Beauty, the hands & feet Proportion. As the air to a bird of the sea to a fish, so is contempt to the contemptible. The crow wish’d every thing was black, the owl, that every thing was white. Exuberance is Beauty. If the lion was advised by the fox, he would be cunning. Improvement makes strait roads, but the crooked roads without Improvement, are roads of Genius. Sooner murder an infant in its cradle than nurse unacted desires. Where man is not nature is barren. Truth can never be told so as to be understood, and not be believ’d. Enough! or Too much!”

FROM THE WIKI

In the most famous part of the book, Blake reveals the Proverbs of Hell. These display a very different kind of wisdom from the Biblical [Book of Proverbs]. The diabolical proverbs are provocative and paradoxical. Their purpose is to energise thought. Several of Blake’s proverbs have become famous.

and
Blake explains that,

Without Contraries is no progression. Attraction and Repulsion,
Reason and Energy, Love and Hate are necessary to Human existence.
From these contraries spring what the religious call Good & Evil.
Good is the passive that obeys Reason. Evil is the active springing
from Energy. Good is Heaven. Evil is Hell.

lastly,

Blake’s theory of contraries was not a belief in opposites but rather a belief that each person reflects the contrary nature of God, and that progression in life is impossible without contraries. Moreover, he explores the contrary nature of reason and of energy, believing that two types of people existed: the “energetic creators” and the “rational organizers”, or, as he calls them in The Marriage of Heaven and Hell , the “devils” and “angels”. Both are necessary to life according to Blake.

first Yoko Taro with his use of Heinrich Agrippa’s angelic alphabet…now Hideaki Itsuno too is mindfucking me with the William Blake poem references.

I mean, the player gets S ranks, but nothing even remotely close to donguri990’s level. Everything that I keep seeing about this title gets me excited, I just hope the hype is deserved with the final product.

#185

Man, between this and the RE2 remake Capcom’s near future lineup is looking pretty awesome. I still need to try Monster Hunter World as well, just don’t have the time for that kind of game lately.

#186

Looks like we’re getting microtransactions in the game

#187

They’ve had purchasable orbs before. I don’t really care about that since it just wastes impatient people’s money, I’m just concerned about content mtx…

#188

Dunno if you guys saw this but apparently: “As for the number of weapons he holds, you can choose to have it be just a little or a lot. You’ll also get to change the order of its rotation.”

So I think this means if you wanted to set 2 weapons or 3(or maybe even 4?) you can do that, and I assume you’d have to switch loadouts in the menu. I think this is a GOD send honestly because I cannot keep up with 3 guns and 3 weapons all at the same time. Great for people that want that but I’m definitely happy about having options.

#189

I’ve got to agree there, I did way less mid combo switching in 4 than in 3 due to that confusion.

#190

That’s amazing. That 3 weapon shit always irritated me.

#191

The only reason to purchase the orbs is if you’re limited in the amount of time you can spend towards gaming. Another would be if you want to explore the combat system as fast as possible. It’s a non issue since the game isn’t competitive multi-player. It effects no one’s experience except for the purchaser.

Dante’s customization is the right way to cater to all audiences without hurting the characters combat depth which a lot of people feared was going to happen. As Ive said in the past Dante was never designed to play a certain way. It’s up to the players personal preference to choose how he plays. I expect to see stuff like 1 weapon 1style SSS runs and such once the game releases. The problem was never Dante. The problem is this instant gratification mindset people have. Look no one was born already knowing how to walk or how to speak and the same can be applied to learning anything. Gotta take baby steps man. Some people learn faster than others and that’s OK.

#192

Fucking hell.

This game is getting better by the minute and thank goodness for ditching that garbage fire dmc reboot crap mechanics and visuals.

The gameplay and controls are looking really tight and the combo possibilities are insane just seeing those vids. The visuals could def be better but seeing Nero, Dante, Lady and Trish in it is enough reason for me to purchase the game.

The Mega buster arm made me lol

#193

Damn this game is looking good. I’m loving all of the old enemies returning. Here’s to hoping the shadows return as well. Still remember those bastards giving me a tough time in that one hallway with a few of them.

#194

Yea seeing the Nobodies surprised the hell out of me, I never thought those would return. I’m hoping DMC5 has a sort of greatest hits album of enemy selection since we’ve already seen Nobodies and Nelo Angelo, plus the Hells returning. I’m hoping for Shadows, Blitz, and a Hell Vanguard or 2 at the least,

#195

As cool as it is that enemies are coming back, I mostly want lots of new enemies. Really tired of it always being the same monsters. Well, as long as the movesets are greatly updated that’s fine as well

#196

Yea I want a lot of new enemies to, that’s why i tried to keep my list small, and left out Blades since those big since those Rock Monsters remind me of them anyway, and as much as i love them, the Marionette set of enemies can stay in DMC1. I’m hoping the return of Sin Scissors means we wont being seeing the return of Fallen lol. Hope they have their insta kill weakness back to, but i doubt it.

Something they could do that would be cool would be to upgrade some of these guys to boss fights. Like A King Shadow thats bigger, more aggressive and has an expanded move set or something.

I dunno just spit balling at random. I would like a good mix of returning and new enemies.

On a completely different note, the art direction has really grown on me, especially after the Dante trailer. The atmosphere of the world gives me DMC1 vibes, tho the wrecked city definitely reminds me of the beginning of DMC3. With that said i do hope we see some environments with a bit more color in them then we have seen so far. Not askin for DMC4 vibrancy or anything.

#197

what videos are you watching, cause it clearly has influences of the reboot in it. namely the slowdown and close up on your character after you beat the last enemy in a gated section. not to mention the more photogenic and less “anime” stylized faces.
oh and how the enemies explode is also the same.and the fact the camera is no longer fixed but free.

#198

He did say “mechanics” though yeah I’m not sure exactly what he meant by “visuals”

#199

maybe he meant the switch back to a more gothic look vs the reboot that had a more surreal salvador dali look to the world.
or maybe the more muted darker tone vs the reboot’s green and red color palette that ninja theory is always using in their games.
im guessing thats what he meant.

#200

Pretty much. Being set in an alternate reality, the art direction of the reboot game didn’t impress me at all. The gimmicks they had within the levels were okay I guess such as the shifting landscape but other than that it wasn’t appealing to me visually.

#201

The nightclub in the reboot actually gives me a head ache. Too many pulsing lights. Awesome concept but doesn’t work for me in execution .
