[Feb 25, 2012] Iowa Monthly Series - MvC, SF, SC, KoF plus more (Cedar Rapids, IA)

Phone number to the shop: (319) 378-9663

WHAT: UMvC3, SF 2k12, SC5, KoF XIII [all singles]

This is a small gaming shop. They only have a vending machine, but there is a Dairy Queen and a few gas stations only a couple blocks away, as well as a Wal-Mart and a bunch of eateries just a couple minutes away. On the plus side, it’s right off the interstate so super easy to find. The parking lot is kinda small but should be able to hold everyone. Just in case, there are other businesses and residential areas right around it that you can use.

Tournaments start at 1 PM. I’m actually going to get there as early as possible, so feel free to come a little early for casuals and whatnot.

SC5: 3/5 rounds, 2/3 matches until finals, then it’ll switch to 3/5 matches.
SSF4:AE: 2/3 rounds, 2/3 matches until finals, then 3/5 matches.
MvC3: 2/3 matches until finals, then 3/5 matches.
KoF: 2/3 rounds, 2/3 matches until finals, then 3/5 matches. [3v3 Team Battle]

Finals are considered to be Losers Finals, Winners Finals, and Grand Finals. Double-elimination for all.

ENTRY FEE: EF will be $5 for everything, and there is also a venue fee of $2. Pot split will be standard 70/20/10 [1st/2/3], although I may take the liberty to round numbers to make the payouts easier.

RULES: For the most part, I’m not a stickler on rules for these things, but please avoid doing glitches and whatnot. I wouldn’t want to have to uppercut people for being lametards. I did want to specifically address systems, though. We’re going to do a mix. I know the SF crowd likes playing on XBOX and 3d folks like PS3. So, for the time being, whatever is available is what we’ll play on, which means bring both PS3 and XBOX sticks or converters, if you play on pad.

RANDOM NOTES: As always, if you can bring something, please do. Monitors are the best since they’re so fucking easy to move around and hook up. But, if you have extra systems/stick, please bring them. Also, you’ll notice that I only have 3 games listed. That’s because those are the big 3 right now (and I want to do SC, so what up?); however, anything is game. Once we get a good ways into the brackets for those games and stations start opening up, we can run whatever anyone wants to, be it MK, Tekken, KoF, whatever.

As always, if I have any updates, I’ll be sure to post up. Sorry for the delay in getting this organized. Holidays are what they are.

You still have the old address up for Battlezone. They moved a couple months ago.

New address: 4333 Czech Lane B5, Cedar Rapids, IA 52402

Also, just to let everyone who looks at the thread know, KOF13 WILL be run. I’ll run it myself if needs be. So please show up and show your support of the game. We don’t want another BlazBlue issue. (I suggest 2/3 matches for the entire duration of the KOF tourney, since the game takes roughly one year to play.)

What’s with card shops and moving locations?

Most card shops are small so they have to pay close attention to their leasing deals.

Unless I get stuck working that day, I’ll be there. I’ve got my monitor, the PS3, and all the main event games for it. If I get off my ass, I should have all the characters (Just need to unlock Kilik and Algol) minus Dampierre for SCV.

Dont you just have to beat the Story Mode? Should only take like 2 hours right?

They’re the only two you don’t get from Story Mode it would seem. Got Kilik earlier today, now apparently I have to work through Legendary Souls mode to get Algol. It shouldn’t be too hard…I mean, it’s the just the computer.

Can’t you fight Algol in Arcade mode, too? I gotta do that as well. Eff single player. :frowning:

Also, Scott, KOF is 3v3, 2/3 matches. 3v3 Team Battle is the standard.

I think you can, but I’m not sure. I know I unlocked Kilik by doing a quick run through of Arcade mode. Maybe you fight him on Hard (I was on Easy for the lulz)

There are a few that you can only unlock by completing Story Mode. I started it this morning. Oh my god it’s so boring and awful. I dont know how I’m going to get through it.

Did anyone else buy the game at Best Buy? I thought you had to preorder to get Dampierre, but I have a code in my case to access him. Didnt even preorder.

The only really important ones are Omega and Alpha P. 3 of the unlocked characters are just edgemasters, essentially. I actually need to make DJ on mine.

Algol’s pretty important. Hope the community doesn’t kneejerk ban the guy. If they do, I don’t think I’ll ever play the game again. They seriously handled 4 poorly.

DJ, on the other hand, I thought they DID ban due to being CAS only and not having a default character (like the CAS defaults in SC3).

True story, Algol is not banned, although from the little I’ve seen of him he looks pretty busted. DJ has been banned at majors, but has been encouraged at minors. I’ve seen nothing busted from him yet (I’ve seen way worse with other characters), so I’m encouraging him at the monthlies. I, personally, won’t be playing him, but if someone wants to give him and go and show us what’s up, I’m for it.

Hey there’s a decent article on streaming on the SRK home page.

I’ll definitely do that when I get a chance. On a related note, the shop said we’re cool to stream, so we now have the OK. I foresee Iowa gamers getting Internet exposure. Yay!

That makes me all sorts of happy in pants.

Exposure, or “exposed”? YOU DECIDE!

May want to come up with some catchy name for the monthlies…and start a facebook channel.

edit Just realized I said Facebook channel…I meant Youtube. I must been drunk 2 days ago.

lol, we could do that. Honestly, though, I would rather have someone volunteer for that since I don’t have the equipment to actually record anything, it would be a pain in the ass for me to own the channel… :frowning:
