Focus Attack tier list?

#1

Is there a list of the range/speed of FAs, would be helpful in choosing which characters to play.

More Importantly - who has the fastest focus attack?

Sometimes speed isn’t the most important. You also need to consider frame advantage on block. For example, Chun Li is the only character in the game that has advantage after a blocked level 1 focus attack. Here’s a list from SSFIV:
http://www.eventhubs.com/guides/2010/may/02/walk-speed-comparison-super-street-fighter-4/

When talking about speed, you also have to consider speed of the actual attack, and the speed in terms of reaching Level 1/2/3.

When it comes to range, Hakan can actual move during his focus attack (I think only when oiled) so technically his might have the most range. He can also cancel his focus dash (I don’t know the technical details), so this makes him unique in this regard.

Generally though, if you want to base your choice of character on their focus attack, then a better question might be which of them get the most mileage from the focus attacks. This will depend on the matchup, but in general characters like Cody, Fei Long and Dudley are more likely to use their FA’s than the average char, whereas characters like C. Viper, Boxer and Dhalsim hardly use them at all offensively.

For what it’s worth, here are the lists of the numbers. The numbers in parentheses signify level 1, 2, and 3 FA start-ups, in that order, with level 2’s numbers first indicating charge time and the second number indicating start-up of the attack.

The above two things really don’t mean much in determining how good a character’s FA is, though. There’s also range, damage potential, hit-boxes and hurt-boxes, and mix-up potential to consider. It’s very hard to just say that Chun Li’s is the best and C. Viper’s or Zangief’s are the worst. However, one would have to be crazy to think for example Zangief’s FA has even half the versatility and actual use of Fei Long’s FA, or that Guy’s post-FA2 mix-ups are even close to Makoto’s post-FA2 mix-ups.

Wow sick data Robot

Yeah Feis is probably the most utilized, IMO the factors that make up a good focus attack is how well it can be used in footsies. So range/speed are priorities - Fei -gap- Chun/Vega/[Fuerte?] are probably the best and then there’s a smattering of chars with good combinations of the two. Mak/Bison/Ryu/E. Ryu/Sak/cody etc. Sim with the range can be used sparingly ususally with a BD. Just don’t use vipers/giefs/rogs/rufus’/hawk and you oughta be fine.

#7

Seth’s is really good because the hitbox reaches so far but he is very punishable on whiff because he falls forwards, unlike Chun or Fei.

Bison and Chun actually move their hitbox BACK on startup, making them very useful footsie tools.

Nice list man, should post that info up elsewhere!

I can see that Gouken’s pretty good
