GGXX Analysis Match Analysis thread

#1

I’ve recently started to get into GGXX. So I’m pretty new to this game. I play with Sol, since he’s easy to use. I know most of his basics, all his moves, supers, how to Roman Cancel and how to False Roman Cancel 2 of his moves. Fireball and that weird Jump kick off the wall. I’m having trouble fighting against

Sol vs Bridget
Sol vs Baiken

Anyone has some useful strats against these 2? Especially against Bridget, good god, she’s so annoying.

#2

Sol vs. Baiken: Bait counters. Run up and attack with a crouching punch, wait. If they block and counter, you can block the counter and punish hard. Use lots of command grabs in close and combo afterwards. You can uppercut through some of her air shit with the Volcanic Viper (always use HS version).

Sol vs. Bridget: This is annoying, but part of it is just figuring out ways around the long range pokes. Try moves like Grand Viper that travel a long distance (GV has to be mashed) to go under some of B’s pokes and punish. Once you’re in close, just lay on the pressure and watch out for Starships (the invulnerable yoyo spin move).

honestly i don’t like Sol because of ID’s sol (beats me all the time), but other wise i beat the others (in my area).

word of advice DO THE DUST LOOP. figure out the many many ways to get them into it.

the one that gets u into it quickly is match starts f+P, that fire punch thing, blue cancle, that power dunk thing where u hold K, then the loop

#4

Holy crap!

Someone found a use for that fire punch thing? That’s the qcf+HS, right?

Oh man, I don’t play Sol but that’s too good. I’ve got to try that out and show my friends if it works.

#5

Holy crap!

Fafnir’s HCF + HS

#6

Sol vs Johnny…i think Johnny is a total counter character for Sol…superior pokes, F+P completely stops Sol’s air game…Sol just can’t get in. what are his options?:bluu:

Baiken vs Faust

#7

Ky vs Sol

i’m looking for info on what everyone’s favorite holy knight can do against his rival

plays up noontide.mp3

#8

my friend lionel richie uses fafnir, (hcf+H), its a good move. Useful as midrange poke, has advantage on block. safe to do.

#9

Pryde…I’ll teach you Sol at GT. kaka…But my coins will own you!

Personally, I think most of sol’s game is knock downs and corner-ing. So, if you get the person down, do some block string and get the command throw in. You get them in the corner, try to get a some mix up going into loop…Sol gets complicated in his choices of moves, not his high low mix ups like milia…that’s all I’ve got for now

#10

When you say “fire punch”, are you talking about Fafnir? Because Fafnir doesn’t cancel from any normals. You’re probably talking about the Gun Flame (projectile).

#11

anyone know what are good/bad match ups for milla, zappa, and dizzy. these are the charaters that i really have fun with.

#12

…for zappa, in my honest opinion, bad match-ups against this awesome randomizer would be sol (of course, tell lllll what char. does well against this beast), millia, and prolly anyone that can counter without using the tension bar (ie. axl and baiken). anyone master the burst cancel with jam yet? game 0n!

#13

Sol’s bad match-ups:

-Millia:
Superior mobility, plus she can bait his VVs without too much difficulty. Sol is easily relaunched, too.

-Venom:
His normals may suck, but one knockdown and it’s the game; Venom can also bait his VVs. It’s a fairly even match, but Venom can really bring him down.

-Ky:
Believe it or not, Sol’s not good at pokes. Ky is, and he can very easily play on this weakness. Not the worst match-up for Sol, since Ky is easily trapped in the corner when his defense is broken, but that’s hard enough.

-Bridget:
His whole game revolves around keeping you out of range. Unless you use the Gunflame FRC wisely, you’re set to lose. Test out Fafnir.

-Axl:
Another guy who can work with range, but he’s a bit more versatile; Bridget usually has a set range, but Axl doesn’t. Good luck trying to get in on him.

-Faust:
Same deal with Axl, but a lot more mobile, and he can attack from several angles.

-Johnny:
Another bastard with good range. And that damn coin.

Sol vs Baiken well its that simple. Baiken is just better.

More setups, counter, and a super fast over head that can lead to some wicked combos

#15

Bzzzt, wrong. Baiken is not better than Sol. He actually has many more setups to land his damage than she does. Add in the fact that counters are VERY baitable and you have a nasty matchup for Baiken; if she fucks up once on the counter, she pretty much dies. Baiken can’t push the offense unless she can knock you down; Sol basically outprioritizes her. Also, her overhead is only good for damage when you can RC it; otherwise all it gets you is another knockdown.

On another note, Ky and Bridget aren’t that bad matchups for Sol. Ground-to-ground, Sol and Buri kind of even (Grand Viper equalizes with the standing Slash and all of Buri’s other pokes are too slow). Bridget’s at an advantage if Sol takes to the air, but if Sol stays grounded and throws Gun Flames (forcing Bridget to go airborne), he gets a huge advantage. Ky is just outclassed. Sol is an excellent poker, and even though Ky does out-range him, Sol has plenty of ways to get in his optimum range, where all his pokes are faster than Ky’s.

Sorry you are wrong. IAD behide with slash or kick is murder and her air throw is sick near corner. All Sol has is a gay FRC Gumflame and a weak high low game. plus she has a chain that rocks.

BTW if you are getting baited into contering then you are countering wrong. I only conter if there is a hit—not if i think a hit is comming.

#17

Your inexperience is glaringly obvious here.

IAD behind with Slash or Kick? Oh, you mean two moves that have almost zero downwards coverage? Big fat deal. A smart Baiken player wouldn’t even attempt that lest she be picked out of the air with a standing Kick (free combo, whee!). Air throw? Get me into the air first. Sol has no reason to go to the air when fighting Baiken. He is more than even with her on the ground, and his ground-to-air is superior (standing Kick, Volcanic Viper, and airthrows).

And yet again, here’s another player who doesn’t understand how Sol works on offense. Don’t even bother citing that he has a weak high low game, because that’s NOT what Sol is about. Sol is about pressure. Fakes, mindgames, intimidation. The fact that any single one of his hits can lead to big damage is a huge intimidation factor. That’s where the mindgames come in. FRC Gun Flames, Volcanic Vipers, normals that generally outprioritize most others, and various other moves make him really versatile.

Talk about misunderstanding. Let me lay it out for you, genius.

Sol rushes at Baiken, stops at about the max range of his c.P or his sweep, and throws either of these moves. What is Baiken going to do? Countering either one of these is a mistake. The c.P leaves him at frame advantage, so any one of your counters is going to get you hit. The sweep has this magical property of dodging all of Baiken’s counters. If he does a sweep and you try to S counter, it’ll go right over him (the P counter will just whiff, and the K counter guarantees nothing). So what do you do? A lot of Baiken players like to P counter the sweep because they assume the Sol player is running on autopilot and is going to do a Bandit Revolver or a Gun Flame, which means counterhit and big damage. But if they just throw the sweep and do nothing else, your counter whiffs and they punish you for free. So now Baiken is not so quick to counter. The c.P comes in here. As stated before, the c.P gives frame advantage. As such, if you block it and try to just hit him back, he will eat you alive. Once you stop countering the second he attacks you, he has free reign to throw additional c.Ps and there is little to nothing you can do about it. On top of this, if you just sit there blocking, he can run up and command grab you for free after you block the c.P (frame advantage!). Let’s not forget that the sweep will chain after the c.P for more safety.

Simply put, the counters mean nothing unless you only counter moves that are 100% guaranteed to be hit. A smart Sol player can effectively dissolve your counter threat. As such, it’s no longer such a great advantage. Hardly makes Baiken better than Sol.

#18

I would have to insert into this heated debate that millia > sol AND baiken, thank you and good day.

#19

Well duh, of course the #2 ranked character in the game is gonna be better than them. :stuck_out_tongue:

Sorry sun Im thinking of her run counter as the primarly counter. and who cares anyway I guess. It seen that me and Raph are having major trouble her with Ky latly. We have a friend who needs too meet you someday. He is most famous for Quake III but he is something else. We are planning a trip soon before Raph moves in September.
