Hauppauge Asus Monitor Setup, Help!

#1

So today I finally got everything I think I need in order to record game play from my 360, but I can’t figure it out and I’ve been searching everywhere with no luck on the correct set up.

I have my xbox hdmi to hdmi splitter input, then one out put into the monitor and the other into the HDMI to component. Now using the component cables that came with the Hauppauge the convertor is connected to the lower row on the back of the Hauppauge. After that the hauppage is connected via usb. I have the program opened up and try to get it to record but it always says capture failed.

Should I be able to see what I'm going to record on the screen before it starts? If anyone can help me out I'd greatly appreciate it, I'm very new at this. Thank you!

And if I wasn’t clear enough on something please let me know!

To what extent are things working? Rather, are you able to see anything on the monitor, or are you getting no picture on both?

Things to check:

  • Xbox 360 is set to output 720p
  • Everything has power and is properly connected
  • Didn’t accidentally mix up the red audio cable with the red video cable
  • That you installed the driver for the HD PVR and not just the software
  • HD PVR box is on before turning on the Xbox 360 (Not always necessary, but they can be finicky sometimes)
  • HD PVR box is on before opening the software
  • The current device in the top left of the software is the HD PVR
  • Make sure the save directory is set someplace that exists
  • If the preview box is checked, you should be able to see the same screen in the software as on your monitor

Here’s a poorly designed diagram to try to make sure you’ve got everything connected correctly.

Thank you very much for the reply! I ended up figuring it out. The problem was the Xbox was set to 1080p when it would only take 1080i.
