I would just like the SRK community's feedback on my Fighting card game that's on Kickstarter now

Pitch time!

"Do you like Streets of Rage, Double Dragon, and River City Ransom? Do you love Street Fighter and tag team fighting games?

OF COURSE YOU DO! Now imagine if you could have all of the above mixed into one game that allows for 5-vs-5 tag team combat! Well, now you can, but only on N30N City RUMBLE!

N30N City RUMBLE (NCR) is a hardcore dueling card game for 2 players averaging 45 minutes. The game is set in a fused 80’s-90’s pop-culture/dystopian city, swathed in radioactive waste and neon lights. Combat features 50+ unique items to use, inspired by classic beat em’ up videogames. There are 20 fighters to choose from, each brandishing three unique super moves, martial arts, and weapon specialties. Victory is reached when a player defeats all of the opponent’s fighters.

Sound like your cup of awesomeness? Go here: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/davywagnarok/n30n-city-rumble"

Pitch over. Now I’d like to hear your thoughts on the mechanics, characters, you-name-it!

First of all you assumed my answer would be yes. I don’t like having you choosing my answer for me even if it is just a rhetorical question. Just a little tip for your pitch.

Secondly I don’t see how your game relates to any of those other games you mentioned. It’s not a video game, so this opening paragraph is extremely misleading. Name-dropping video games makes people naturally assume that you are also making a video game.

Essentially your pitch is, “Hey, do you like beat’em up video games from the 90’s? Great! Here’s something that plays absolutely nothing like them.” Sorry but I’m just not biting. As a fan of those types of video games I just don’t see anything here for me.

Your trading card game looks fun for what it is. A TRADING CARD GAME! Now I think it’s a cool idea. But to sit there and say “Do you like Streets of Rage, Double Dragon, and River City Ransom? Do you love Street Fighter and tag team fighting games? OF COURSE YOU DO! Now imagine if you could have all of the above mixed into one game that allows for 5-vs-5 tag team combat! Well, now you can, but only on N30N City RUMBLE!” is misleading.

You’re implying that this game will give you the experience of classic beat’em ups along with traditional fighters. It would have to be a videogame to do that. And people would think characters from those games would be in it… I suggest advertising it as a card game that’s pays homage to classic fighters and beat’em ups. And the way you just assume everyone loves those games. Your pitch just comes off as pandering to fighting game enthusiast. Like we’re suppose to jump on this because you mentioned Street Fighter or Tekken.

Looks fun but work on that pitch.

You spammed this in GD and FGD with identical posts. Note the [FGD rules](Rules of FGD: Read Me First Or You Will Be Banned stating “be part of the community” and “don’t create a thread until you’ve been here a month”.

I can’t think of any thread that belongs in FGD AND GD, especially not a plea for money for the person posting. (As opposed to some charitable pitch.)

I’m going to move this to GD so that Val can merge the two threads and then decide whether or not you deserve a ban. Perhaps he’s more charitable than I am, but I for one am displeased to see an identically spammed request for money. Maybe it’s cute and cool, but how many cute and cool pitches for money do we need?

OK, moved. @Valaris‌ to decide upon the fate. If you want to merge them both and shunt them back to FGD or some other venue that’s fine.

#6

I apologize! I have backers telling me that I need to get out there and promote the game, but THIS sort of outrage seems to happen when I do. LOL. I will happily remove both of my posts, but can I ask you one question: Do you know where I can do this sort of thing? I’m not asking for money–I’m trying to sell a game that has ZERO marketing. And let’s face it, it totally kicks ass! It just needs some exposure.

Either way, I will remove my posts right away and try to start over, OK? No need to get me banned, dude. I’m just a guy trying to make my dream a reality. Thanks

I’m just a Japanese guy taking in a fight.

45 minutes for a 2 player card game simulating fighting is too long. Get it down to flash duel level matches and you’ll have my interest

5vs5 is too many characters, what about 3vs3?

#12

I think the 5v5 is inspired by the Yugioh card game.

As someone who played Magic 95-08 and loves the things you name dropped in OP, I actually agree with the usually stupid psychojosh this is just a shitty bait and switch tactic, if you had a video game in mind okay you would have our interest, but card games play nothing like them so don’t try to pass it off like yours does.

GD does have a kickstarter thread. Though that may just be for videogames.
