Final Round Arcade will be beginning its second season of ranking battles on January 11th!

Every Tuesday night at Final Round Arcade will have a ranking battle, alternating weeks between SSF4 and MvC3. We will have a ranbat for MvC3 on release day, and the winner of that will be taking home a brand new copy of the game, courtesy of BohabMF!

    • FEES - -

UPDATE: Fees are now $5 at the door, $3 for the tournament, $2 for the season. That’s $10 every time to participate in the ranbat, so you aren’t paying some weird amount every time you want to participate.

So what does that money get you?

$5 - Door Fee for ALL NIGHT PLAY of SSF4 / MVC3 (depending on the night) – remember that Final Round Arcade has $5 ALL DAY passes for console games on Tuesdays and Thursdays, so that’s what the first $5 are for. You can play any game you want pretty much; we normally have MvC3 setups and SSF4 setups.

$3 - Tournament pot for that night’s ranbat. The money is split 70/30 across the top 2 finishers of the day. If more than 16 people sign up, the money is split 70/20/10.

$2 - Season pot for the 16-man tournament held at the end of the season.

$0 - Matches are streamed LIVE on justin.tv/finalroundarcade and archived on our YouTube, at YouTube - FRArcade’s Channelgodlike.

    • POINT SYSTEM - -

Every time you play in a tournament, you get a certain amount of points. This will be updated on the FR facebook and in this thread every time there is an event.

Breakdown:

1st place - 256 pt
2nd place - 128 pt
3rd place - 64 pt
4th place - 32 pt
Tied for 5th - 16 pt
Tied for 7th - 8 pt
Tied for 9th - 4 pt
Tied for 13th - 2 pt
Attending - 1 pt

You may have noticed that every ranbat is seeded. We use your last 3 ranking battles to determine your seeding for this tournament, then we average out all the points you’ve earned. That tells us where we’ll be putting you in the seeding. We will be using Challonge to set up all of our brackets. The seeding point values will always be available on the thread at all times – you will never, ever be seeded in a way contrary to this during the tournament.

Need an example on how the seeding works? Say you come to two tournaments and place first, then you miss a 3rd. Then you go to a 4th tournament. Your seeding score is (256 + 256 + 0)/3, so 171. If you had attended all three tournaments and won all three of them, you would have the highest possible average (256).

All seeds below the 16th participant are thrown into a random assignment. If you want to be seeded for a tournament, make sure you’re good enough and attend to continually stay in the top 16 participants.

When two players have the same average when trying to determine seeding, their real position on the bracket is randomly determined between all possible positions of that seed. So, for example, if you were tied for 7th 3 times with the same person (somehow), then I literally flip a coin and you wind up either seeded 7th or 8th in power – but it doesn’t matter, because both of those seeds are “roughly” the 7th place seed.

I noticed that when running this algorithm, sometimes you wind up with a lot of people sharing enough to make the 16th seed. In the event of ties, the person who placed the highest most recently will earn the seeding. If still tied, we continue to look back at tournament history to each tournament and see how they placed. In the event that they are still tied, I will flip a coin.

    • END OF SEASON - -

What happens on May 7th?

The players with the highest 8 point values at the end of the season are put in a bracket to play it out. Players that have placed 9 through 16 are also added, but they automatically start in the loser’s bracket. There will

    • OTHER THINGS ABOUT THE BRACKETS - -

To avoid this altogether (since I don’t want to hear gripes about rigging the brackets), and since I set up the seeds and the brackets, the following are always in effect:
[]There will be no floating of the brackets, ever. You play the matches the software says you play.
[
]nothingxs will not participate in any of the ranking battles. I can’t run a stream and a tournament and also play.
This should clear up everything. If you have any questions, let me know. If you’d like to offer help in running the bracket once it is already set up, let me know.
