Need help landing hits

I used to could be able to but now I can’t seem to land any hits online, they all get blocked. The only way I can ever win is by using Strider or Blackheart and chipping my opponents health away, and sometimes that gets boring. So tips for landing hits?

Learn to triangle jump for the 50/50 mixup and wave dash in order to get close (depending on character, especially important if you play Sentinel).

Honestly if you can’t get a hit in, maybe you should try to play some other characters. Playing with Guile against someone who know how to block is only going to get you so far. Try Magneto. Magneto can get a hit in easy because of his airdashes and high priority. If that isn’t working for you, I would do either 2 things:

  1. Practice with Magneto. Practice is the most importan thing especially with MVC2.

  2. Play with characters that do not need to hit somebody in order to be effective.

I would do number 2, because I can hardly get a hit in with a rushdown character lol. Let me explain what i mean.

Look at my signature. You see the teams I use and will more than likely use in tourneys. Team Z (Jugg/Tron/Doom), Team Scrub/Clops (Cable/Sent/Capcom or Cyke), Ruby/strider/Doom, Blackheart/Strider/Doom and lately Clockwork (Sent/Strider/Doom). You notice something similar about them? All of these teams except for Team Z do not need to get hits to get results. they can turtle and/or chip the hell out of your opponent. and if they try to stop it, more than likely they will get hit. Trapping and pressuring will eventually lead to a hit.

And even with team z, I can pressure your ass into a throw or cross you up. if I play with juggernaut and Tron and I get a throw in, you are pretty much dead unless I screw up. Thats the beauty of Team Z lol.

So here is what I suggest, pick a team that doesn’t require you to actually hit somebody I.E. Clockwork, Scrub, Santhrax/Matrix, etc. and learn how to trap and chip. Honestly if you have a problem hitting people, more than likely, you will have more luck with them.

Or you can go to the training room and fuck around with MSP and shit.

BTW, if you are playing Magneto you can play it yipes style which has been working for him for at least 10 years lol. Pressure him to death, then set him up for random shit, like a hk throw, which should lead straight into the ROM infinite.

Sounds like you need to look at your entry techniques… that first hit is normally going to get blocked… good players can even keep mags n storm out for a bit sometimes…

my suggestion is don’t look to land that first hit… your strat should assume they will block that first shot… that’s when the hi-low, assist pins, cross-ups… ect can be applied which is more likely to lead to a landed shot.

From a philosophical perspective the better you get the LESS you’ll be landing some j.fierce, st.fierce xx super… sort of stuff… not b/c you aren’t better at landing it… but b/c you won’t really be going for it unless it’s freeeee…

Bait their attacks and hit them out of their advances. Try dashing in and blocking (maybe call an assist).
Learn Storm.
Use a good Anti Air assist like cyclops or captain commando to hit them out of their moves while blocking.
