I would suggest that the first thing you do then is to check out the SSFIV wiki page on Akuma to get a good idea of what you’re getting yourself into;

Super Street Fighter IV/Akuma - Shoryuken Wiki, Marvel vs. Capcom 3 Strategy and More!

Then, if you think you have what it takes to handle the Demon, take a look at the usefull Akuma info thread on these forums:

http://shoryuken.com/f249/akuma-thread-links-useful-information-219404/

Finally, you may want to get a “visual” idea of what Akuma is capable of. Check out both Video threads here:

http://shoryuken.com/f249/critique-my-akuma-video-blog-thread-194703/

The first link shows mostly “high-level” akuma players like Tokido, Eita and JR doing their thing. The 2nd link is usually for people who haven’t yet mastered Akuma but want to get pointers from other Akuma players here on how to improve. There’s still usefull info to be pulled from these vids as it may show you what NOT to do with Akuma (especially any videos posted by SKG… Seriously, whatever you see him do, don’t do it!)

And that’s about that. Akuma’s a hard character to master and if you plan on doing so, you’ll likely be in for a long arduous haul. But once you do get the hang of him, there’s really no other character that can dominate like he can in Street Fighter.

If you’re really going through with Akuma, be prepared to lose a lot. I mean, a shit-ton. SF4 is my first serious SF, first serious fighting game, first console game I really got into. Akuma is my first main. I lost about 80% of my matches the first 8 months or so before I started pulling ahead.

I’m decent now, but I still have a lot to learn. He’s fun as hell though, so go crazy.
