Pop Music and video game crossovers

For whatever reason I’ve suddenly become interested in the times where videogame music makes its way into pop music or vice versa. These can be obvious samples, or times where the music just really sounds similar. I’ll list a few of the ones that come to mind, and if anyone can pick up where I’ve left off I’d appreciate it. I’m curious as to what we can come up with.

Janet Jackson’s MROVvcmSyeI]Together Again sounds like the [on Sonic the Hedgehog for Master System.

Then there’s dQw4w9WgXcQ]Rick Astley’s Never Gonna Give you up](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f54VElMUqGo/media) which is shockingly similar to [P0FKzPfsxA4]Bobby Brown’s - Every Little Step and [Those are some of the more popular ones, but I had my 80’s collection playing and noticed how the intro to hn7kGyOxVUM&feature=related]Expose’s - Come Go With Me](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cDd_GlynA6A[/media) sounds damned near identical to

Any input is appreciated.

If you listened to DangerMau5 he incorporates the Zelda overworld theme song into his music from time to time. On a non musical note by sound but by reference, a metric ton from Guilty Gear to heavy metal but also most of the Mainline Ogre Battle subtitles are titles from Queen songs.

How did I not notice this? It seems so obvious now that I think of it. Just thinking of the intro to the Astley song and the first 5-10 sec of Robo’s theme are one in the same.

Well now that I think about it Beanie Sigel also had that track Mac Man which had a bunch of Atari references sampled over Pac - Man chomping down pellets.

Robert Miles’ song ‘Children’ is Rock’s theme on Mark of the Wolves.

REM’s is practically a vocal version of Elec Man’s Stage from Mega Man 1.

VCbO-3hjPok"]Robert Miles - The Children can be heard in

Edit: Dammit Zulu already mentioned it above^

I remember after playing the game for 2 or 3 years, and then realizing that both songs were the same tripped me out.

I was just about the mention the Rick Astley and Robo thing, heh. Other than that, I can’t really think of anymore, but I’m interested if anyone else can find more.

Few more:

Mega Man X3’s UMk78h69OLk"]Neon Tiger Stage is nearly identical to Guns N Roses’ [.

Doom II’s LDq4cULBHEs"]Barrels 'O Fun (Map 23)](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3va-a8fLO3k"[/media) sounds just like Alice in Chain’s [.

The from A Boy and His Blob (NES) is taken from the Indiana Jones Theme by John Williams.

But nobody beats Earthbound in terms of sheer song-sampling:

9ZXylB7bgX8"]Your Name, Please](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zTuD8k3JvxQ"/media) (Name entry theme) is an arrangement of [by John Phillip Sousa (used in Monty Python)
Jackie’s Cafe is the

Holy crap, that is Them Bones. Uh…Indestrucable sounds like Cherry Pie by Warrant.

Wow. Neon Tiger = G&R. How funny. I used to play that game (still do sometimes) and listen to G&R, but never put 2 & 2 together.

They actually used Cindy Lauper’s Good Enough in Goonies, which ended up being put into 8 bit for Goonies II on the NES -

Cindy Lauper video with an entire gang of OG WWF wrestlers cameo… pretty awesome-

NES song-

There are a few more that I know of off hand. I just have to do some lyrics research and get the actual performing artists and titles. This is a funny thread.

These two songs are based on the ending credits from blade runner, no question:

Sonic: Scrap Brain Zone

Mass Effect: Therum Battle

:u: Good call, I’ve played Sonic and watched BR hundreds of times but never caught that.

Just remembered: Shinobi III Stage 3-1

Halloween theme song

And I always thought Sonic 1’s TSKgprdDRTY#t=20s]Labyrinth Zone sounded like EDIT: One more:

Doom had a lot more:

I was listening to this, then Elecman’s theme changes at 0:56
which sounded strangely familiar to this mainstream song

kinda digressing but here are some songs that use video game samples if you guys are interested:
