That does seem a bit expensive. 2.8 P4s are pretty old.
so what would be a good price? i think the only reason why it’s so much is because of the monitor (when he posted the ad, it said “$300” next to it…).

Honestly, 17" monitors are pretty small by todays standards.
400 bucks for that rig? That’s actually pretty good, I wouldn’t listen too much to the guys here. It’s a bit short in the mobo/cpu, and you didn’t even mention if there’s a video card. What are you planning on using the machine for?

Save a little money and order something similar:
Amd athlon 2x +5400 processor
Some motherboard
2GB ram
300GB harddrive
Decent display driver
TFT Monitor(SAVES TONS OF DESKTOP SPACE)
Full package might cost you about $800-1200, but at least you won’t need to buy a new computer for next 2-4 years.
If you buy that old one you would eventually have to replace it in 1-2 years, because all new programs, games and such these days require better CPU, RAM, DISKSPACE & DISPLAY DRIVER.
So buy hot top PC that there is now and you will also clearly save cash 
For a comp with all that, $400 is a Good price.
I favor building one’s own comp to his own specs, rather than buying a pre-built Pc. That looks about right though for what it would cost to build one yourself like that.
well i’m probably not going to buy it… i might just wait on it (like i’ve been doing for the past couple of months)
i just need a new machine to get on that starcraft 2 when the time comes
