** Put your tournament on the map! **

[EDIT]Kineda has pointed me toward SF4Answers.com’s version of this, which appears to already be established. So it makes my stuff a bit pointless. :)[/EDIT]

.:: What have we here?
A map of upcoming tournaments in the US. I think it’ll help tournaments get more exposure if someone can zoom into their area and see everything that’s coming up, rather than have to skim 5+ pages of the tourney forum. Especially for people that may not be near big tourney areas.

Yahoo! Pipes: http://pipes.yahoo.com/sf4tournaments/unitedstates
Google Maps: http://is.gd/4iiMO [full url]

The Pipes version is ordered by date, but the Google version has a nicer interface. Take your pick.

.:: How do I get listed?
Send an email to sf4tournaments AT gmail DOT com … BUT don’t just slap a bunch of random-ass info in there. First item should be info parsable by Google Calendar. For example: SF4 Super Ultra Fight Night 7PM 11/18/2009 at 123 Somestreet, New York, NY 10002 … all on a single line. Under that, a link to the SRK thread and/or the relevant website. After that, whatever you want. If you don’t follow that format, I won’t post your tourney. Nothing personal, I just don’t want to have to spend my time parsing info when Google will do it for me.

.:: Nice, but …
Right now it shows everything for the next 6 weeks … seemed like a reasonable timespan. I’m working on making the Pipes version a bit nicer (clickable links, more info, etc…). I’m still very new to using Pipes, so if you have any suggestions definitely let me know.

Anyway, I’m hoping to see if this little experiment will gain traction. Have at it.

thanks for doing this!

I was going to fill this out but noticed my tournament was already on there. Thanks a lot for doing that and look forward to seeing you on the 25th in Mahwah.

Just sent you an e-mail, thanks a lot!

This is hot.

Thanks all. I’ve already got 15+ upcoming tournaments listed, keep 'em coming.

SF4Answers has something really similar to this already with events nationwide:

Ah! See, that’s exactly the kind of thing I was looking for, but couldn’t find. Hence my little thing. This is definitely better, though, thanks for the heads up!

Thanks for the heads up kineda.

I’ve been working to do this worldwide, and provide much more functionality. Here is the SRK thread which explains the concept and outlines the functionality:

I think it differs from yours in that the data is manually entered into my system whereas yours is automated, relying on some sort of structure.

Like you, I use Yahoo Pipes to aggregate and filter a lot of data and then present it to me in as concise a manner as possible, which I then enter into the system.

That being said, I’d love to have a discussion with you about all of this, and how to best serve the community.

Feel free to PM me, and we can exchange email/IM info and continue the conversation.
