So i did some homework. I made a recording of the hp, hp super, mp (resets), ultra. I went through every character and attempted to block down back as natural. Found it didnt work on blanka only! Also blanka seems to be the only one who can punish. I did a regular up ball and hit gen out of ultra. By the way the ultra never touches blanka.
Ken for example can forward dash out of it. There are obvious ex moves most of the cast can do to avoid.
I find it hard for charge characters like chun or balrog to escape without bar. The invincible moves like ex headbutt and ex srk each do not auto correct. This is to our favor obviously. Also since you end up on the other side is breaks charge to an extent.
Let us look into this more because there are situations this would be helpful.
I hope to hear more facts. Not just opinions. Video of situation to come.
i tried to counter the ultra with other characters, i attempted the srk the direction the ultra started and it whiffed. i tried to do it the opposite direction and nothing came out and the opponent got hit by ultra.
i’ve done several different timings from as early as possible st.mp, to as late as possible st.mp. i’ve done further research and discovered a little more.
if you do the late one you will end up behind before gief can super/ultra. no auto correct. so i believe you are correct friend.
my first test that provoked the original post was done using a middle timing. seemed to be universal to all blocking back. it put gen infront of gief. this is probably not the timing you want to use on gief. do mp as late as possible.
i’ve started to recognize the ultra freeze screen for chunli when it’s going to cross up. i’ll try to capture an image of each characters screen and ill update my original post for the masses.

Everyone else, Guy can reversal U2 you, Gief can reversal U1 you.
Everything needs to be done as fast as possible, or it won’t be a cross-up and you’ll be open to any combo the opponent likes to do. And even then they can back dash you and punish, but some players simply take back dash out of their gameplay.
