Reset mantis u1 cross up

gen

#1

So i did some homework. I made a recording of the hp, hp super, mp (resets), ultra. I went through every character and attempted to block down back as natural. Found it didnt work on blanka only! Also blanka seems to be the only one who can punish. I did a regular up ball and hit gen out of ultra. By the way the ultra never touches blanka.
Ken for example can forward dash out of it. There are obvious ex moves most of the cast can do to avoid.
I find it hard for charge characters like chun or balrog to escape without bar. The invincible moves like ex headbutt and ex srk each do not auto correct. This is to our favor obviously. Also since you end up on the other side is breaks charge to an extent.
Let us look into this more because there are situations this would be helpful.
I hope to hear more facts. Not just opinions. Video of situation to come.

i tried to counter the ultra with other characters, i attempted the srk the direction the ultra started and it whiffed. i tried to do it the opposite direction and nothing came out and the opponent got hit by ultra.

i’ve done several different timings from as early as possible st.mp, to as late as possible st.mp. i’ve done further research and discovered a little more.
if you do the late one you will end up behind before gief can super/ultra. no auto correct. so i believe you are correct friend.
my first test that provoked the original post was done using a middle timing. seemed to be universal to all blocking back. it put gen infront of gief. this is probably not the timing you want to use on gief. do mp as late as possible.
i’ve started to recognize the ultra freeze screen for chunli when it’s going to cross up. i’ll try to capture an image of each characters screen and ill update my original post for the masses.
thank you zukuu and messiah ill try both options.

Super cross ups on wake up!
provided by street11

  1. Forward Grab -> 1xForward Dash -> LK Gekiro whiff -> LP super
    Works on:
    Ibuki
    Gen
    Dee Jay
    Fuerte

  2. Forward Grab -> Crane Forward Jump HP (change stance here) -> Crane c.LK whiff (thanks to stance glitch) -> MP super
    Works on:
    Honda
    Seth
    Gouken
    Dhalsim
    Cammy
    Blanka
    Fei Long
    T.Hawk
    Rose

  3. Forward Grab -> Mantis Forward Empty Jump -> s.MK whiff -> HP super
    Works on:
Boxer, whiffs if he doesn’t input a direction

  4. Forward Grab -> 1xForward Dash -> Mantis Neutral Empty Jump -> HP super
    Works on:
    Adon

  5. Forward Grab -> 1xForward Dash -> HK Gekiro whiff -> MP super
    Works on:
Everyone else, Guy can reversal U2 you, Gief can reversal U1 you.

Everything needs to be done as fast as possible, or it won’t be a cross-up and you’ll be open to any combo the opponent likes to do. And even then they can back dash you and punish, but some players simply take back dash out of their gameplay.

dunno if its worth the extra dmg for a not 100% relaible hit. has to be depending on health lead / difference.
the ultra flash takes the momentum of suprise. as far as I would be the opponent I’d not just block, but input my ultra aswell, which (depending on the charater) would most likely beat mantis u1.

btw wasnt there another crossup ultra setup? crane c.lk, c.lp, u1 or something

Thats the beauty ofthis cross up, NOTHING auto corrects! I would like to think the gens are very percise players. With 1 frame links being bread and butter, the crazy cross ups that you guys are able to pull off. Ya cant tell me you wouldnt try it in a tourny. If that were you one option to do that extra bit of damage.
I believe the other cross up you mentioned was for the super which i think if you get crane c.lk then why try to get an extra 20-40 dgm (totally guessin on damage lol).
I for one have successfully pulled this off against the ryu here and a chun and sakura. All three players are not to be taken likely. Simular situations, no bar or ultra and tried to block.
Lets remember nothing auto corrects lol. Thats hot.

#4

Could you post the exact inputs/combo you used? Your post style in the Op was very confusing.

@Zukuu

Yeah I think that one also worked for ultra (it works for super 100%) but it is not worth it imo, too hard.

#5

Is this what you are trying to explain?

I tried this once, but gave up after the guy dodged it by spamming back dash after ultra freeze. It’s not an easy setup to use. Too late and they can just press down back, right on time and they can just keep tapping back.

#7

imput!:
s.hp, super(hp version, don’t know if it matters), s.mp (opponent is reset), ultra.

as for me trying to counter the ultra with other characters, i attempted the srk the direction the ultra started and it whiffed. i tried to do it the opposite direction and nothing came out and the opponent got hit by ultra.

@lets-be-ian

Did you try Gief’s reversal Ultra yet? I’d like to test it myself, but I’m afraid I won’t play PS3 for quite a while.

When you say they can’t auto-correct, do you just mean its difficult or that its impossible? A properly done cross-up hurricane kick makes it impossible/close to impossible to auto-correct because it crosses over during the earliest possible time you can input directional inputs. For characters like balrog or Honda yes, horizontal autocorrect is difficult, but ex headbutt (boxer), and ex.sumo-smash have enough invincibility to avoid it all together, don’t require an auto-correct and they will recover before Gen.

It’s all theory fighter though. This would probably be useful against characters like makoto, Abel (U1 should win or pass through since Gens U1 hits mid, U2 should lose), Sakura, and Vega off the top of my head since they don’t have really good options, but if this can be beat reliably, there has to be a mixup somewhere. If you can change the timing, like Ibuki’s vortex, to determine whether or not it’d be a cross-up, it’ll fix the one-trick pony ordeal gen seems to have.

#10

when i say nothing auto corrects i mean there isn’t a way to make the opponent attack gen when he crosses over. it landing on the one frame that the ultra makes contact makes a hitbox mess! ill try to explain my THEORY of the hitboxes here. gen hitbox is on the opposite side from where the ultra starts, it happens to get to the other side on the frame that the opponent lands. the assumption is that you need a bigger window of frames to auto correct.
im sorry if that was confusing i tried my best.
as for zangief, both super and ultra grab gen. ex spd, both chars whiff. ex kick grab gets beat by gens ultra, and he seems to recover in time to maybe s.mp gen. not to scary if zangief is without super/ultra.
also my chunli friend is coming over so we’re recording matches. ill post the good stuff lol. ill also be attempting cross up ultra!
gens ultra beats ables ultra 2, breaks armor.

#11

ok, let us know how it goes and i look forwards to the vids.

(and btw, yay for Gens in Texas, so far i’m the only actual gen player i’ve met in Houston)

#12

yeah we are recording now but so far it’s all been trash. just us fuckin around. serious stuff is gettin done in a few. anyone know any good video editors? the vids are gonna be long.
im in killeen texas, it’s like an hour above austin, three hours from houston. our scene here is about 25-30 people who play regularly. healthy eh.

#13

Editors for what? effects, or shrinking? Probably the best editor is Premier. that’s what i use.

#14

Like cutting out all the nonsense. Splittin up the matches. You say premier? Ill check it out. Also im not posting vids from today we ended up just bsing.

#15

Boo lol, i had 5 a random five minutes in training, and I was trying to find the right timing, and i wanted you to describe it, because i did it too soon and I was behind him before he landed, and I did it too early and it was really easy to block lol. Did you mean mantis st.mp or cr.mp?

(I used st.mp)

#16

-“sony vegas pro 10” - this is where you cut and render your stuff, add basic effects, collect your material etc - your workstation.
-“adobe after effects” for teh shit in terms of “free flow” effects. you only add a short part of a clip you want to edit and edit it, render it and back to sony vegas.

^most successful combo I’ve encountered.

#17

yeah mantis st.mp. i’ve done several different timings from as early as possible st.mp, to as late as possible st.mp. i’ve done further research and discovered a little more.

there’s no cross-up here this ken player is a noob he dosnt seem to know his(Gen) ultra were he going

#19

This is my bad camera work showing this is an actual cross up. Shows chun attempting to block the normal way. Your aim is to have chuns legs all dangly like that. Lol. Ill have better stuff when i get the chance (gf’s birthday tomorrow along with work and school. No fun). More to come! In image form.

Yeah as I thought, this has been discovered quite some time ago already. I’d say it’s not even worth the risk of doing in a tournament due to the fail rate.
