RIP Gamespy

#1

I had a sort of strange brand loyalty to the same gaming site for over a decade but alas, it is dead<div><br></div><div><a href=“http://pc.gamespy.com/articles/122/1227460p1.html”>http://pc.gamespy.com/articles/122/1227460p1.html</a> <br></div><div><br></div><div><span style="color: rgb(75, 75, 75); font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255); ">"GameSpy, as we know it, began in 1999. Today, 14 years later, it has reached the end of the road. We had a good run, and we want to sincerely thank all of you for reading and joining in discussions with us. It’s been fantastic.</span> "<br></div><div><br></div><div>Ahh the days of the top tens, Fargo being somewhat funny, the terrible IGN merger, the being super shitty for a long time, the somewhat escaping the shittiness by becoming a pc centric site.  And lolgamespyarcade.</div><div><br></div><div>I WILL MISS YOU</div>

1UP is out too.  All the good editors left anyway.

#3

I STILL dont know what the flying fuck gamespy is/ever was…<br> :-/

#4

If IGN isn’t the next to shut down then there is no god. Everything they do outside of video game news is a fucking abomination.

#5

We can all pray Kotaku will soon meet the same fate.

#6

Why would IGN shutdown, they are the ones killing off every other gaming site.

#7

I’m saying I wish they would. I don’t know a single person who relies on them or their reviews. All of their editors are fucking retarded.

#8

RIP PlanetAVP.

Didn’t you read the <a href=“http://www.polygon.com/2013/2/21/4014196/ign-layoffs-1up-ugo-and-gamespy-shutting-down”>press release</a>?<br>

All these websites are the same so it wouldn’t hurt to have less of them. The news are the same news anyway, and the reviews are unreliable anyway.<br>

#11

<font size=“2”>I used Gamespy a lot back in the day for Quake 3-engine based FPS games, even though those games usually had great in-game server browsers too.</font><div style=“font-size: 10pt; font-weight: normal;”><br></div><div><b><font size=“3”>Real question is, what happens to the P2P games on PS3/PC/Live that use Gamespy to match people together?</font></b></div>

#12

i just hope someone buys the IGN pro league cause i think they put out some fantastic starcraft 2 tournaments.   ESPORTS!!!

#13

IPL never actually got around to having a fighting game tournament, right?  Capcom sure knows how to pick a winner, at least they still spited MLG.<br>

#14

Never thought I’d say it, but I miss Gamespy. Ever since they got ganked MK9’s servers went from horseshit to bullshit. Unbefuckinglievable

#15

hope gamefaqs is next

#16

Just because you hate the forums doesn’t mean the entire site should be shut down. Just kill the forums.

#17

Gamefaqs is solid, as long as you don’t use it to gain info on strategies for competitive games (ex: fighters).

#18

I hate the forums and their rigged character battles!

UGO is dead as well.
http://www.ugo.com/wtf/swansong-for-ugo#.UUoVRFc4F8E

It wasn’t a gaming site exclusively, but it’s been around since 1997 and has been a part of the web scene forever.

UGO, 1UP, and GameSpy were all part of a smaller network of IGN subsidiaries that are getting the axe. I only really visited 1UP, which was basically the spiritual successor to EGM, and have little history with the others, but it’s sad to see 'em go.

#20

Damn, 1UP is going away, too? Yet the shitty ass EGM-in-name-only lives on? Fucc the world.

Granted 1UP did kind of fall off a bit in recent years, but they still had more integrity than their peers
