Setting up Record/Stream setup

My friend brought over a dazzle with avi cables, we tried to hook it up on my hdtv with a PS3 but failed. I plan on buying my own

Exactly what other things do I need to buy in order to get it set up to work on the hdtv? If you can link me the things I need I would really appreciate it.
