Super Meat Boy
This game is a 2d Platformer available today for XBLA coming soon to WiiWare and PC. It’s on sale for 10$ on XBLA as a promotional price which will go up to 15$ as of November 21st. Seriously give this game a shot if you haven’t. Has a nice long demo and it’s a pretty small download. One of the best reviewed games of the year already. It really is something special.

Gameplay:
“Super Meat Boy is a game where you play as a boy without skin whos girlfriend who is made of bandages gets kidnapped by a fetus in a tuxedo wearing a top hat and a monocle.”

The game sees players taking on the role of a small animated cube of meat named Meat Boy who must save his girlfriend, Bandage Girl, from the evil Dr. Fetus. Players must use sharp reflexes to guide Meat Boy to the end of each level, using his wall clinging ability, whilst avoiding buzzsaws, salt, and other various death bringing obstacles. The game will contain about 350 levels, which are split across various chapters. Levels in each chapter can be played in any order, but a certain number of levels need to be completed to access the boss stage. Completing a level with an ‘A’ grade will unlock a harder alternate level. Characters from various indie games can be unlocked by collecting bandages hidden in the levels, or entering warp zones featuring retro styled bonus levels. These levels will also have retro rules applied to them (such as a three life limit). There will also be a replay function, showcasing failed attempts simultaneously. The XBLA version will feature an unlockable mode which will be freely updated with new levels. A full level editor was planned, but due to new regulations concerning user made content on consoles, only the PC and Mac versions of the game will have this feature, which will be released some time after the PC version ships.

Characters:
Along with Meat Boy, there will be 15 unlockable characters appearing from various indie videogames, each with unique abilities. These characters can be unlocked by collecting enough bandages or completing certain warp zones. Some bandages can only be collected by using certain characters.

Fun game. Worth the $10, easy.

EDIT: For anyone interested, it’s basically a faster N or N+

#3

Yeah really enjoying this game as well although I haven’t had much time to play it.

#4

i like the fact that they ripped off domo-kun

#5

I hope they don’t stop with just the Wii and PC. PS3 users and DSi users deserve this game too.

I’m in world 4 now with a bunch of other random dark world and warp world stages beat. Even got world 1’s negative stage to unlock. I don’t know how it occurred but hey, it did.

Game is pretty much flawless in my eyes. I truly see no fault with it except MAYBE having to warp back to the map if you lose in a warp world. That’s seriously it.

To get the -1 stage you have to keep doing stages in The Forest until you see Bandage Girl all weirded up, then you just finish the stage. I went to World 1 Stage 2 and kept finishing it until I got to -1.

Also, I’m sure you guys have noticed this, but the opening scenes to the Worlds are from other games. Such as:

World 1 - Street Fighter Championship Edition
World 2 - Castlevania

#7

wow I never really noticed that. I love the cut scenes tho there so random and unexpected

#8

Wait why isn’t this coming to PSN?

#9

^Dunno. Especially since it’s coming to Wii so it’s not like it’s exclusive to Xbox or anything.

That’s the point I’m trying to get across. There’s no method of getting glitch bandage girl to appear. She does ‘randomly’. I also unlocked World 2’s negative levels too. In world 3 I heard her glitching but died before I could get to her.

World 3 - ???
World 4 - Ninja Gaiden

Really what is Alien Hominid good for?

#10

for the past 2 weeks i’ve been thinking about buying this game, its the only games i’ve seriously considered buying for the Wii.

#11

Wii is the worst platform to get it for, because it has no extras.

360 has free DLC levels; PC has a level editor.

I just got to World 3. The opening is from The Adventures of LoLo. Damn…I haven’t played that game since I was little, but when I saw it…I instantly knew.

#12

Does anybody know if they are going to add any type of multiplayer to the game? It would be awesome if you could race with your friends to see who would get the girl first.

#13

Ok. To World 5 now. Here’s the openings thus far.

World 1 - Street Fighter
World 2 - Castlevania
World 3 - Adventures of Lolo
World 4 - Ninja Gaiden
World 5 - Mega Man 2

Also…damn this game gets hard.

#14

the street fighter opening made me LOL.

Title Update

60 more free absurdly hard levels by the end of the year? I’m almost afraid of them… Also trying playing this game with an Arcade stick if you haven’t already.

#16

Yah. You find that out just by switching to the Dark levels in World 2. Game means business. Commander Video and Jill get a lot of play time now.

And apparently Alien Hominid does not suck and might be broken. The gun isn’t to slow his descent. I mean it does do that but as you rise from a jump is when you should shoot. That makes your jump go even higher. I’m going to start working on that some more.

No. What they should have added was the upload and download of replays. If there was to be co-op it would have to be like 'Splosion Man’s co-op where you’d be force to do synchronized platforming with another person to beat the levels

Well 20 absurdly hard. The Gish only levels shouldn’t be that way. But since they mention Gish only I’m guessing that all the characters will eventually get their own level packs next year. I’d love to see one for Jill and Commander Video.

#17

I didn’t really like splosion mans coop mode at all. It was retarded, if your teammate died you couldn’t do shit. Because relying on 1-3 other players not to mess up wasn’t hard enough. I’m sure there were less then 10 percent of everybody who had that game that finished the whole game on multiplayer.

#18

I just got to the the warp zone where you unlock “the kid”…Holy crap… Probably the hardest thing i’ve ever attempted in a game.

Other than that, this game is really awesome.
