I’m sorta new with the online 3S scene. I see so many youtube vids of GGPO. I’ve been using Supercade and it seems alright. Everyone’s said poor things about GGPO. Why isnt supercade more popular? There are some old EVO players on there.
-extremely international player base (basically a rainbow of flags and therefore hard to get decent pings)
-players are generally bad. it’s mostly new people who are just passing time and want to play a couple matches as akuma. and even if you don’t care who you play, it’s hard to find anyone because of distance and hosting limitations
-the interface itself tends to be annoying. you can’t set yourself to away, or type a msg while a challenge is issued
if ggpo works well on your computer and you live in north america, use that.
Hi fist…if you want a cool alternative to both ggpo and Supercade, may I suggest you take a look at MAME HUB It’s fairly new to the scene but has great potential
thats not for fighters due to one thing that it uses input lag for the netcode(if it gets better than kaillera then i’ll play the fighters that are not supported on ggpofba on it).
You can’t parry if your inputs are lagging or do links timings and reversals as well. Plus, you can’t use that online experience for offline play cause your timing will be different.
GGPO has better netcode and a bit better lobby (the setup is better just buggy) not as much games though and sometimes you need to know a few little quirks to get a game running. The only bad thing I here about ggpo is the port forwarding.
also it depends on what game you want to play as in some ggpo rooms are horrible
Supercade (updated 2df) >GGPO both graphics and stability superior ( espeasially for SFIII 3rd Strike).
Indeed Supercade does not have many ppl online compared to GGPO. That may be fixed in the future.
During old 2dfigher days, the client used to count 200+ players online.
Supercade is currently pretty much similar to 2dfigher.com including Auto Save Replays( that feature does not exist in the options menu, but it is always Enabled).
You may watch your replays or other ppl’s replays as soon as you close the game and client. All replays are hosted in supercade.net.
To watch a replay, you click the “Replays” button on the site (Both the site and SupercadeClient have just been updated, http://damdai.com/Supercade/Default.aspx. Once you install the updated version, you may run the application using the shortcut on your desktop)
and click “Watch”. The client instantly loads the match.
Another recent update is the fact that you can no longer spam or talk bad in the chat window. You may receive a warning mute or a ban. Plus, the chat window is autoDisabled during game sessions. You do not have to close the client to avoid lag because of the overpopulated chat window.
I play smoothly in supercade almost all the time. I rarely notice connection problems or crushes. There is no frameskip or increasing delay because of spectators. I find a lot more players in ggpo, no doubt about it. However, even at low ping(60-90), half of them do not run the program smoothly enough due to hardware or ggpo server issues. Sometimes, they have the autoframeskip feature in Video Settings enabled or HQ sound 44100(default is 22050Hz). Those settings are not netplay optimized ,whatsoever.
I decided to give Supercade a-go this week and I’ve noticed some heavy, heavy delays compared to GGPO. Normally I only play people with <100 ping and play a relatively delay-free game on GGPO. On Supercade, I’ve played people with 80-120 ping and got some pretty bad results. Granted, I’ve only played about 5 people in all so I’ll test it out some more in the following week.
again with this dumb question: takes 10 minutes to install both.
i use them side by side, since it’s pretty hard to find Alpha2 matches.
If you play people with ping 100ms or higher, supercade’s input delay is indeed pretty high. You may get used to it, but it’s not fun. In ggpo, high ping connections are hardly any playable. When the ggpo server runs fine, the games are pretty smooth, no doubt.Unfortunately, it reaches its limits regularly. Therefore, lag increases, game crushes, being unable to log in for quite some time, players fail to connect etc.
Supercade, does not seem to share those issues so far. It is a much lighter program, less buggy compared to ggpo.It is also regularly updated with fixes/optimizations in his code.I think that final version will restore 2dfighter back. If ggpo works better for your system, or you simply like it more, keep on working with that. It’s a matter of taste in the end.
CPS3 games are the only ones that have input lag at the higher pings. Everything else is at worst as good as GGPO. The only real differences being that in Supercade the connections work every time, no sound glitches, speed is correct, no spectator interruptions, and replays are automatically uploaded and searchable through the website like GGPO used to have. To clear up some earlier misinformation, you CAN send messages while a challenge is pending, and you CAN set yourself to away. Lobbies are the same, except that in Supercade you can receive challenges in multiple games without having to switch rooms, there is no chat or challenge spam, server doesn’t crash once an hour, you can chat to a single person or country, and you can easily ignore people without having to download a secret client.
The reason supercade has less players is because I killed it when it was most popular to experiment with a web based model. Now that I’ve recently brought it back to a client/server model, I haven’t made an attempt to spread the word yet. I think the client is in a good state now to do so though.
Here’s a good question aimed at everyone: Why are there so many South Americans on Supercade? It;s like half the country of Brazil came online. It’s odd. I can understand KOF but everything else seems of. I can only guess that they can’t get GGPO to work and come to Supercade.
2DF had the majority of the brazil players. When 2DF stopped, most of them migrated to ggpo, but many of them are returning now that Supercade is similar to what 2DF used to be.
I started playing Supercade again and I like it. I have way to many connection issues on GGPO
i cant get it started its i cant find it to delete it i keep getting this

help me please
Hey Neo, try these steps:
- Uninstall Supercade from Add/Remove programs if it’s there.
- Delete folder: %appdata%\Supercade
- Empty folder: %temp%…\Apps
- Empty folder: %temp%
- Install Supercade.
Why is there a newer version of Supercade every other day I want to play? I skipped the install this time and now it won’t let me play. “Client out of date”.
still dont work
You have to accept the update. Whenever I make a big change, there are usually updates for a few days while everything is polished.
Neo, are you trying to install from a guest account?
Excellent post Damdai. It is indeed, much improved
I’m curious though…At the end of the day, which model would you say required more effort/work on your end, the web-based model or the client server one? Which one offered the most challenges?
Web based for sure. The program flow is different, requiring a lot of hacks and clever thinking to achieve things that come easily in a standalone program.
I finally found the ini file. I have Win 7 and it was a bitch to find it. Why make that folder hidden? Protect it from what? From users having easy access?
