Tournament settings for fighting games

#1

i’ve been trying to find out what settings to use if i ever ran my own tournaments, and i’m not sure where to look. i did a search and i didn’t really see anything.

what settings do most people use when running tourneys for fighting games? damage, speed, time, rounds, lifebars, stuff like that.

i’m particularly curious about these games:

3s
MVC2
CVS2
Tekken Tag
KOF 2002
KOFXI
GG Slash / AC
Samurai Shodown 4/5/Tenka?

#2

What ever the settings is when you first ever turned on that game is what the tourney setting is IIRC. Anyone correct me if I’m wrong.

#3

i know that’s wrong for XSF, where the tourney speed is definitely not Normal.

#4

For the most part its just default settings, but there are exceptions. For 3s, cvs2, mvc2, and gg, it’s default, but you need to unlock all the characters in mvc2.

#5

A lotta 3d games got the rounds set to best 3 out of 5 'stead of the defualt 2/3.

#6

These should get your started. I have compiled the list from several sources for games that were not listed on EVO2k. I by no means take credit for coming up with the rules, and I want to thank the EVO2k team for creating a US Tournament Standard.

I do not have the tournament settings for the KOF2002/XI or the SS4/5/Tenka games, but this list should get you started.

I will state again that I take no credit for the rules, and I have only compiled the list. Credit goes to EVO2k for creating a US Tournament Standard.

#7

that is an awesome list there, Matt! thanks!

#8

This is the US standard? I believe the Angel uppercut infinites are allowed everywhere else.

#9

wtf kind of standard is that. worldwide, angel infinites are allowed.

#10

whats the deal with that steve fox hold left kick then left punch left punch?

#11

[3],1,1 is the old T5 steve fox infinite that use to be allowed. it put the character in unbreakable stun and could link into a 100% combo. it was hella broken.

#12

How did snk rules get into the evo listing?

Also some tournaments use rules that are not consistent with evo:

  1. Button Macros
  2. Switching supers in 3s
  3. Judgement in 3s
  4. Switching character order in MvC2.

These are the main rules that will vary, the rest is pretty standard (for the games that were actually in evo, i dont know who invented those other rules, or why they are listed like they are of the same set)

#13

What the hell is wrong with picking T.Hawk’s or Zangief’s stages in SFII:ST?

#14

PS2 version supposedly has slowdown issues in those stages.

#15

PS2 version = CCC2?

#16

Yes~

#17

Ok SCIII rules are backwards as hell. No create a soul characters, but the bonus characters are allowed. Um…what? Bonus characters are made with create a soul parts and have access to the same styles. Why exactly would one be allowed and not the other?

#18

Honkuto Broken:

Everything allowed :lovin:

#19

I just found the rules that were set up by people at SC.com. I am guessing they mean all the “unlockable” characters that are on the character select screen. Custom characters then would not be allowed.

#20

why don’t they use the xbox version, then? …because xboxes are heavy?
