Vid Game Adaptations & Reboots

#1

Some of the best Vid-game movies are:

  • Mortal Kombat
  • Tomb Raider
  • Resident Evil
  • Prince of Persia
  • Silent Hill

Some of the worst are:

  • Street Fighter
  • Tekken
  • Super Mario Bros.
  • King of Fighters
  • Max Payne
  • Doom
  • DOA: Dead or Alive

But…

If you want reboots on some of these games, be my guest on how to fix some stories.

As for games such as…

  • Soul Calibur
  • Assassin’s Creed
  • DmC: Devil May Cry
  • Anarchy Reigns
  • Metal Gear Solid & Rising
  • Sonic the Hedgehog (mix CGI character with live action characters)
  • Virtua Fighter
  • Darkstalkers
  • Darksiders
  • Ninja Gaiden
  • Castlevania
  • Final Fantasy
  • Xenosaga
  • Bloody Roar
  • Legacy of Kain
  • Samurai Shodown
  • Metroid
  • Blazblue
  • God of War
  • Uncharted

And those that are in need of a reboot like…

  • Mortal Kombat
  • Street Fighter
  • Tekken
  • Tomb Raider
  • DOA: Dead or Alive
  • King of Fighters
  • Super Mario Bros. (turning live action characters from the real world into 3D/CGI characters in the other world)
  • Bloodrayne

How would make such fancasts & stories?

You had me until RE.

#3

lol @ RE movies being good and the SF movie being bad

RE movies just serve as masturbatory material for Paul Anderson.

The original SF movie is cheesy fun. It was obviously made with kids in mind and it’s harmless and has a couple of laughs. Not a masterpiece or anything but it’s hard to imagine anyone getting really pissed off that this movie exists. And when you think about how mainstream SF2 was at the time the Animated Movie was pretty ballsy. You would never see something like that today where popular characters die, get the shit tortured out of them, and take their tits out.

MK movie was okay. Nothing special. Nothing terrible either. Paul W.S. Anderson has never made a good film and I’ve seen Event Horizon.

Silent Hill was good but the fanboys hated it.

I think the Super Mario Bros flick is so bad it’s good personally. I mean, when you really think about it what kind of movie could you make about Super Mario Bros? The film tried to somehow make sense of it all, it failed, but it tried and that’s admirable.

I always think of this Dennis Hopper quote in regards to his role as King Koopa:

RIP Dennis Hopper.

At least the movie cleared up why they’re called the Mario Brothers:

Sergeant Simon: Name.
Mario: Mario.
Sergeant Simon: Last name.
Mario: Mario.
Sergeant Simon: And you?
Luigi: Luigi.
Sergeant Simon: Luigi Luigi?
Luigi: No, Luigi Mario.
Sergeant Simon: Okay how many Marios are there between the two of you?
Luigi: Three: Mario Mario and Luigi Mario.

lol that dennis hopper quote is great. but poo on you for dissing Event Horizon.

#8

It’s actually been a while since we had a list thread. They used to be more routine than GameStop hate threads.

#9

W0rd, OP stop making threads!!!

Let me copy and paste the reasons why you are a pile of shit!!!

“Killing yourself would be a good idea. The only problem is that you don’t have the guts”

“The bus driver would just as soon slit your throat as give you a ride.”

“Next time you have sex, fixate on just how horribly unattractive your body is.”

“You hate your job. And it’s safe to say that no one at your job is particularly fond of you either.”

“When you pray, no one is listening. Furthermore, you look ridiculous.”

“That special bond you think you have with your pet is imaginary. As long as it has food and water, you could get hit by a train tomorrow, and your pet wouldn’t think anything of it.”

If they made a movie about your life this is who they would cast to play you…scroll down…

lol…FLAGGED.

Bweeehhhhhhh!

(The buzzer sound! Remember?)

I hated Event Horizon when I was about 10 when I first saw it and I hated it when I re-watched it many years later. It does have some cool visuals and Laurence Fishburn so I give it that much. But it just didn’t do very much with the concept for me and was pretty underwhelming.

Also, believe it or not it’s a rip off of a 1981 flick called Galaxy of Terror which has the same exact premise with a rescue team going on board a ship where everyone died and they’re picked off one by one by what they fear most.

Plus you get to see that chick from Joanie Loves Chachi head explode:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GM7aIYTqN7Q

And a scene where a woman gets raped by a giant maggot. And that’s clearly a mark of quality.

Man everytime I think of the Super Mario Bros live action movie it makes me laugh. I would watch it right now if I could. It contained such gems such as Mario using a jetpack, John Leguizamo as Luigi [strangely enough, everytime I see a movie with him in it, it’s almost guaranteed it’s going to be shit], “Yoshi” looking terrifying, Bowser with a flamethrower and perhaps the slowest chase scene in any movie ever.

Not to mention the abandoned Sequel Hook “You will never guess what I saw” yeah, we will never guess because there was no sequel. Geez

The Super Mario Bros movie, Street Fighter Live Action movie, and Double Dragon live action movie were the first three video game movies I ever saw. The Double Dragon movie however was very forgettable and I absolutely hated it.

PLUMBER ALERT!!

#14

Resident Evil movies? Good?!

#15

1 and 2 were somewhat ok tho and had some RE elements. I kinda liked the 2nd re movie.

but yeah someone(different director!) needs to make a REAL resident evil movie. call it resident evil origins and go back to the mansion. there is more than enough material to put together a nice 2 hour zombie flick(think 28 days later).

on a related note, this here is gadlike
