It caught me off guard. Online no problem. But a Sim player that does everything right…what tools does cody have other than patience to literally get in. Thanks
EX Ruffian Kicks and Zonk Knuckles, to start. Try to close that opening gap quickly if you can. But most likely, it won’t work out so well. Spend the better part of the first round building meter/gauge through full-screen stones and FADC if you’re able. I recommend having at least have 1/4 super meter before you go in. Once you do, start attempting to close the gap. The threat of Ruffian and Zonk will make Sim think twice before pressing a button, let alone throw fire and such. Also, learn Cody’s safe-jump setups, wake-up option-selects and toward+strong frame traps. Once you’re in, you’ll want to stay there. Rarely use fake stones to bait Yoga Fire. When it works, you do get huge damage and good positioning, but if Sim sees through it, you’ll eat a crouch fierce/standing forward and you’ll have to start all over and this time they’ll be looking for it. One more thing, use Cody’s normals to punish limbs; a well-timed crouching fierce is great for catching Sim’s crouch fierce.
Zonk loses to Sim’s s.HP/c.HP/s.LK/c.LP It’s kind of risky to use unless Sim is timing his limbs poorly to cover the yoga fire. Meter really matters in this matchup for Cody. EX Zonk/EX Ruffian/Sims bad upclose options are the only things that keep this match even close to even. It’s one of those matches where I really wish that they’d fix the release timing issue on Badstone so that you could actually hold the badstone and release it when you wanted to, that way you could try and time it to go over yoga fires and counter hit Sim’s limb followup.
The only thing that makes this match kinda even is Cody’s corner unblockable. Otherwise it’s probably one of his hardest matches as far as I am concerned.
I think you also have to remember that you can counter poke his limbs with cr.mk, cr.mp m, crack kick etc. When I dont have meter I also like to trade with his fireballs using mk ruffian.
It’s a tough match

You can only counterpoke his limbs if they aren’t backed up by fireballs though. That said. B.MP does a great job shutting down his yoga sniper from most positions (it IS possible for him to aim them to hit Cody’s feet and make b.strong miss but the positioning is impractically strict for a character as floaty and slow as sim to do consistently.)
What normals/moves do you use when Sim tries to teleport out of the corner?
Focus through limbs to close distance. EX. ruffian goes through his U1. I use st.mp against teleports.
Thanks everyone for the advice. I will have to go into training and beat it out =/ Boring but no choice. Thanks again
Is that “good” enough?
I usually try to go for Crack Kick -> follow-up, but it is really slow.
Yeah the st.mp works even if you react a bit late you’ll still get the counter hit. After the air reset you can dash forward and continue the pressure. If you predict it coming than crack kick would be the better option.
