I realized this today. It’s because, in this age particularly (as an old schooler), I find they are one of the few if not only pure video games left. No pretensions, no mish-mashed concepts, no hand-holding tutorial gates, cutscenes, pompous text, camera management, “hit X to grind” or social networking BS. Just pure friction, action and response. You boot up the 1st time and are thrust naked and clueless into a plane of mechanics you are still expected to figure out for yourself. Everything else is an amalgamation of 30 years worth of ideas in a push notification, friend code, live-tweet, premium account, freemium era.
I agree, TC. Fighting games are still pretty “pure” videogaming. Back to basics.
